Interpersonal coordination of body movement-or similarity in patterning and timing movement between interaction partners-is well documented face-to-face (FTF) conversation. Here, we investigated the degree to which interpersonal is impacted by amount visual information available type conversation partners are having. To do so within a naturalistic context, took advantage increased familiarity with videoconferencing (VC) platforms limited FTF due COVID-19 pandemic. Pairs participants communicated one three ways: laboratory setting while socially distanced wearing face masks; VC view another's full movements; or remote shoulders. Each pair held conversations: affiliative, argumentative, cooperative task-based. We quantified as relationship two participants' overall using nonlinear time series analyses. Coordination changed function contextual constraints, these constraints interacted patterns affect subjective outcomes. Importantly, found results that were distinct from previous research; hypothesize differences may be changes broader social context COVID-19. Taken together, our consistent dynamical systems phenomena, emerging components, history system.

The diversity of cognitive skills across primates remains both a fascinating and controversial issue. Recent comparative studies provided conflicting results regarding the contribution social vs ecological constraints to evolution cognition. Here, we used an interdisciplinary approach combining neurosciences behavioral ecology. Using brain imaging data from 16 primate species, measured size two prefrontal regions, frontal pole (FP) dorso-lateral cortex (DLPFC), respectively involved in metacognition working memory, examined their relation combination socio-ecological variables. these as well whole brain, was best explained by three variables: body mass, daily traveled distance (an index constraints) population density constraints). strong influence on FP DLPFC volumes suggests that memory are critical for foraging primates. Interestingly, volume much more sensitive than volume, line with laboratory showing implication complex interactions. Thus, our highlights relative weight specific regions associated operations

We investigated the factors underlying naturalistic action recognition and understanding, as well errors occurring during failures. Participants saw full-light stimuli of ten different whole-body actions presented in three conditions: normal videos, videos with temporal order frames scrambled, single static representative frames. After each stimulus presentation participants completed one two tasks-a forced choice task where they were given potential labels options, or a free description task, could describe performed their own words. While generally, combination form, motion, information led to highest for some form was sufficient adding motion did not increase accuracy. also analyzed found primarily types. One type error on semantic level, while other consisted reverting kinematic level body part processing without any attribution semantics. elaborate these results context perception.

Abstract Among social stimuli that trigger rapid reactions, body images occupy a prominent place. Given bodies carry information about other agents’ intentions, actions and emotional expressions, foundational question concerns the neural basis of processing. Previous functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have investigated this but were not yet able to clarify time course its significance. The present EEG study role slow oscillatory cortical activity in processing species-specificity. Human participants viewed naturalistic human monkey bodies, faces, objects, along with mosaic-scrambled versions control for low-level visual features. Analysis event-related theta power (4–7 Hz) combined data-driven methods revealed strong, body-evoked response is specific spans widespread scalp region during window 200–550 ms after onset image. Our results corroborate recent research proposing species-specific network We submit may play an essential linking processes movement intentions.
