Abstract The aim of this updated systematic review was to offer an overview the effectiveness environmental surveillance (ES) SARS-CoV-2 as a potential early-warning system (EWS) for COVID-19 and new variants concerns (VOCs) during second year pandemic. An literature search conducted evaluate added value ES public health decisions. studies published between June 2021 July 2022 resulted in 1,588 publications, identifying 331 articles full-text screening. A total 151 publications met our inclusion criteria assessment EWS early detection variants. We identified further 30 among grey literature. confirms its usefulness detecting waves infection with average lead time 1–2 weeks most publication. could function VOCs areas no registered cases or limited clinical capacity. Challenges data harmonization variant require standardized approaches innovations improved decision-making. support decision-making resource allocation future outbreaks.

The outbreak of the monkeypox virus (MPXV) in non-endemic countries is an emerging global health threat and may have economic impact if proactive actions are not taken. As shown by COVID-19 pandemic, rapid, accurate, cost-effective detection techniques play a pivotal role disease diagnosis control. Considering sudden multicountry MPXV outbreak, critical evaluation approaches would be timely addition to endeavors progress for control prevention. Herein, we evaluate current methods, discuss their pros cons, provide recommended solutions problems. We review traditional nucleic acid approaches, immunodiagnostics, whole-particle detection, imaging-based techniques. insights provided this article will help researchers develop novel MPXV.

A focus on water quality has intensified globally, considering its critical role in sustaining life and ecosystems. Wastewater, reflecting societal development, profoundly impacts public health. Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) emerged as a surveillance tool for detecting outbreaks early, monitoring infectious disease trends, providing real-time insights, particularly vulnerable communities. WBE aids tracking pathogens, including viruses, sewage, offering comprehensive understanding of community health lifestyle habits. With the rise global COVID-19 cases, gained prominence, aiding SARS-CoV-2 levels worldwide. Despite advancements treatment, poorly treated wastewater discharge remains threat, amplifying spread water-, sanitation-, hygiene (WaSH)-related diseases. WBE, serving complementary surveillance, is pivotal community-level viral infections. However, there untapped potential to expand surveillance. This review emphasizes importance link between health, highlighting need further integration into management.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is an approach with the potential to complement clinical surveillance systems. Using WBE, it possible carry out early warning of a outbreak, monitor spatial and temporal trends infectious diseases, produce real-time results generate representative epidemiological information in territory, especially areas social vulnerability. Drought and limited sufficient water resources will be the main challenges for humankind during coming years. The lack of washing, bathing, drinking increases use contaminated risk waterborne diseases. A considerable number outbreaks are due to protozoan parasites that may remain active/alive in harsh environmental conditions. Therefore, a regular monitoring program using sensitive techniques is needed decrease outbreaks. Wellorganized point-of-care (POC) systems with enough sensitivity specificity holy grail research platforms. In this review, we comprehensively gathered discussed rapid, selective, easy-to-use biosensor nanobiosensor technologies, developed early detection common protozoa.

While Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis, management, and care have become priorities for healthcare providers researcher's worldwide due to rapid population aging, epidemiologic surveillance efforts are currently limited by costly, invasive diagnostic procedures, particularly in low middle income countries (LMIC). In recent years, wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) has emerged as a promising tool public health assessment through detection quantification of specific biomarkers wastewater, but applications non-infectious diseases such AD remain limited. Detection of the virus is primary factor to discover and block occurrence development epidemic. Here, an ultrasensitive paper-based molecular imprinting sensor developed detect two viruses simultaneously in which detection limit influenza (H5N1) 16.0 aM (9.63 × 103 particles/mL) while that Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) 129 fM (7.77 107 particles/mL). This low cost easy cut, store, carry. In addition, visual semiquantitative achieved by using aptamer-functionalized persistent luminescent nanoparticles as signal probes. These probes imprinted cavities on material formed sandwich-type double recognition target viruses. has extremely high sensitivity H5N1 virus, great value solve epidemic with most outbreaks history, also opens up a new way for prevention control other epidemics. cheap portable provides possibility self-service can greatly reduce pressure medical staff risk infection caused concentration people be tested.
