Melanins play a fundamental role in the biology and ecology of several fungal species. Unfortunately, this group amorphous macromolecules also severely (and most times irreversibly) stains cultural heritage objects. Despite efforts made throughout years, knowledge chemical composition structure melanins is still insufficient, which hampers task safely cleaning these colourants from materials targeted way without causing further deterioration. This work aimed therefore to contribute towards enlightening characteristics three fungi that are common paper colonizers: Aspergillus niger, Chaetomium globosum Cladosporium cladosporioides. The extracted were characterized by FTIR, Raman, UV-vis, Solid-State NMR MALDI-TOF MS spectroscopies effect inhibitors DHN-melanin DOPA-melanin pathways on colony pigmentation growth was evaluated. Although all show predominantly aromatic with carbonyl phenolic groups, some differences between can be highlighted. obtained Ch. Cl. cladosporioides exhibited similar structures both presented characteristics, while A. niger’s revealed more complex ordered structure, higher prevalence highly conjugated carbonyls than others, besides additional presence yellow/green component. These conclusions cannot overlooked selecting methodologies for melanin materials.

The cost of treatment antibiotic-resistant pathogens is on the level tens billions dollars at moment. It special interest to reduce or solve this problem using antimicrobial coatings, especially in hospitals other healthcare facilities. bacteria can transfer from medical staff contaminated surfaces patients. In paper, we focused our attention antibacterial and antibiofouling activities two types photodynamic polyurethane composite films doped with carbon polymerized dots (CPDs) fullerene C60. Detailed atomic force, electrostatic force viscoelastic microscopy revealed topology, nanoelectrical nanomechanical properties used fillers composites. A relationship between electronic structure nanocarbon composites was established. Thorough spectroscopic analysis reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation conducted for both films, it found that them were potent agents against nosocomial (Klebsiela pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonela enterica, Enterococcus faecalis, epidermis Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Antibiofouling testing indicated CPDs/PU eradicated almost completely biofilms aeruginosa Staphylococcus aureus about 50% Escherichia coli biofilms.

The lithium-ion battery market is rapidly expanding but lacks recycling for spent (SLIB) cathodes, overlooking their potential as valuable raw materials. Herein, we present a novel win–win bioregulation strategy to repurpose SLIB cathodes into dual-functional biocatalysts oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions (OER HER) using Aspergillus niger soluble extracellular polymers. In the recycled cathode ink, 85% of cobalt has been regenerated catalysts. Simultaneously, materials such graphite cobalt, which have not regenerated, are separated stored. Integrating characterization theoretical calculations reveals that enhances hydrophilicity 70-Bio-Co/GOs enables biological nitrogen doping. Compared catalyst lacking bioregulation, observe 0.27 eV elevation in d-band center identify metallic-like electron distribution around Fermi level. Consequently, compared with other studies, 70-Bio-Co/GO exhibits slight superiority OER (η10 251 mV), HER 110 overall water splitting (25 mA cm–2 1.641 V) performance, along stability (98 h). Overall, investigated technology regenerating SLIBs.
