Seaweeds are an important natural source of highly valuable bioactive compounds, namely vitamins, proteins, essential amino acids, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty minerals and trace elements, carotenoids, polyphenols, enzymes carbohydrates. Their compounds have been associated to several biological activities, such as antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anticoagulant, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, prebiotic, hypocholesterolemic. Due their richness in well-balanced composition, seaweeds become a promising innovative new functional ingredients, that can be used the development novel food products well nutraceuticals, thus, improving human health, well-being quality life, also contributing prevention treatment diseases. This review provides overview knowledge acquired last years about health benefits with molecules, consumption seaweeds-based foods nutraceuticals.
