The pericardium plays several homeostatic roles to support and maintain everyday cardiac function. Recent advances in techniques experimental models have allowed for further exploration into the cellular contents of itself. Of particular interest are various immune cell populations present space within pericardial fluid fat. In contrast cells comparable pleura, peritoneum heart, appear be distinct their function phenotype. Specifically, recent work has suggested these play critical an array pathophysiological conditions including myocardial infarction, pericarditis, post-cardiac surgery complications. this review, we spotlight currently identified mice humans, role cells, clinical significance immunocardiology axis cardiovascular health.

Pericardial Fluid (PF) is a rich reservoir of biologically active factors. Due to its proximity the heart, biochemical structure PF may reflect pathological changes in cardiac interstitial environment. This manuscript aimed determine whether level troponins patients undergoing surgery.

Pericardial fluid (PF) contains cells, proteins, and inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, matrix metalloproteinases. To date, we lack an adequate understanding of the response that acute injury elicits in pericardial space.

The systemic inflammatory response after cardiopulmonary bypass has been widely studied. However, there is a paucity of studies that focus on the local changes occur in pericardial cavity. purpose this study to assess mediators fluid patients undergoing cardiac surgery. We conducted prospective cohort aortic valve replacement. Pericardial and peripheral venous blood samples were collected opening pericardium. Additional obtained from shed through mediastinal drains 24 48 h Levels interleukin 1α (IL-1α), 1β (IL-1β), 2 (IL-2), 4 (IL-4), 6 (IL-6), 8 (IL-8), 10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), epidermal (EGF), soluble E-selectin, L-selectin, P-selectin, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), cell (VCAM-1) determined all serum samples. A total 45 with mean age 74 years included, which 66% males. Serum levels IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1 significantly increased at No significant observed remaining mediators. increase postoperative IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-10, IFN-γ, VEGF, MCP-1, VCAM-1, P-selectin was There robust surgery bypass. activity shows distinct pattern more marked than level. These findings suggest compartmentalization within cavity
