Human pericardial fluid (PF) is a rich reservoir of biologically active markers. The acellular compartment PF can drive cardiac fibroblast activity in vitro. This process mediated through the transforming growth factor-β pathway. Of clinical importance, patients with coronary artery disease has an increased profibrotic capacity compared without disease.

The systemic inflammatory response after cardiopulmonary bypass has been widely studied. However, there is a paucity of studies that focus on the local changes occur in pericardial cavity. purpose this study to assess mediators fluid patients undergoing cardiac surgery. We conducted prospective cohort aortic valve replacement. Pericardial and peripheral venous blood samples were collected opening pericardium. Additional obtained from shed through mediastinal drains 24 48 h Levels interleukin 1α (IL-1α), 1β (IL-1β), 2 (IL-2), 4 (IL-4), 6 (IL-6), 8 (IL-8), 10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), epidermal (EGF), soluble E-selectin, L-selectin, P-selectin, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), cell (VCAM-1) determined all serum samples. A total 45 with mean age 74 years included, which 66% males. Serum levels IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1 significantly increased at No significant observed remaining mediators. increase postoperative IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-10, IFN-γ, VEGF, MCP-1, VCAM-1, P-selectin was There robust surgery bypass. activity shows distinct pattern more marked than level. These findings suggest compartmentalization within cavity

Atrial and ventricular natriuretic peptides play an important role in the neurohormonal regulation of cardiac function. Plasma levels these may aid diagnosis prognosis different disorders, such as congestive heart failure, ischemic disease, atrial fibrillation. However, association between elevated pericardial fluid clinical conditions has not been proven. Databases Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane, ClinicalTrials.gov, Google Scholar were searched for primary studies evaluating peptide, B-type N -terminal-pro-B-type peptide concentrations within various disorders. A total 1060 citations screened, which 38 underwent a full-text evaluation, 10 finally included this review. Sample size varied across (n = 8–148), there was 577 patients studies. Findings suggested that but correlated with reported conditions. Our findings suggest correlate some disorders failure The addition to existing risk stratification scores be helpful early management
