Introduction: Substance abuse is recognized as a brain disorder that primarily affects two systems: the motivation-reward system and defense system. The former responsible for modulating behaviors aimed at obtaining pleasurable reinforcers such social interactions food. Frequent drug use diminishes response of this system, leading to tolerance hedonic effects. oriented towards safeguarding individual’s physical integrity, responds threatening stimuli by generating sensations fear or anxiety displays an antifragile nature. Objective: describe interaction between these systems, which altered frequent use. This leads diminished increased well effect adverse two. Method: recent scientific articles published in PubMed were browsed critically reviewed; both human animal studies included. Discussion conclusions: interactions, neglectful parenting child abuse, promote allostatic load strengthen nature favoring maintaining consumption. In models, it has been observed maternal care deprivation early days life maladaptive adulthood alcohol Similarly, subordinate animals consume more drugs than their dominant counterparts. These findings suggest complex relationship experiences, development reward vulnerability addiction.

Successful developmental neuroimaging efforts require interdisciplinary expertise to ground scientific questions in knowledge of human development, modify and create technologies data processing pipelines suited the young brain, ensure research procedures meet needs protect interests children their caregivers. This paper brings together four perspectives tackle a set that are central for field address as we imagine future role prediction neurodevelopmental or psychiatric disorders: 1) How do generate strong evidence base causality clinical relevance? 2) integrity support fair wide access? 3) can these be implemented clinic? 4) What ethical obligations researchers working with infants children?
