During adolescence, chronotype shifts toward "eveningness." "Eveningness" is related to negative physical and mental health outcomes. Little known about what influences the shift in beyond pubertal status. The current study examined influence of earlier depression predicting later individual differences adolescent chronotype, accounting for status, prospective prediction increases from chronotype.Youth (age M = 12.06, SD 2.35; 56.5% girls) community completed repeated assessments depression, including both self-reports (14 assessments) diagnostic interviews (eight assessments), over a 48-month period. At 36-month timepoint, participants development measures. Regression ANOVA analyses examined: (1) levels (baseline 36 months) upon (2) (at (48 months).Youth with higher symptoms (β -0.347, P < .001) history diagnosis -0.13, .045) showed greater eveningness preference controlling age, gender. Further, interacted status predict chronotype: (F(1,243) 4.171, such that on was greatest among postpubertal youth (t 3.271, .002). Chronotype (greater preference) predicted -0.16, .03) onset depressive episode (b -0.085, OR 0.92, 1 year later.Depression, experienced life, predicts eveningness, especially youth. In turn, by evening preference. These findings suggest reciprocal interplay between mood biological rhythms, during adolescence.

Mammalian circadian rhythms are controlled by endogenous biological oscillators, including a master clock located in the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN). Since period of this oscillation is ∼24 h, to keep synchrony with environment, need be entrained daily means Zeitgeber (“time giver”) signals, such as light-dark cycle. Recent advances neurophysiology and molecular biology rhythmicity allow better understanding synchronization. In review we cover several aspects mechanisms for photic entrainment mammalian rhythms, retinal sensitivity light novel photopigments well variations retina that contribute regulation physiology. Downstream from retina, examine retinohypothalamic communication through neurotransmitter (glutamate, aspartate, pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide) interaction SCN receptors resulting signal transduction pathways neurons, putative neuron-glia interactions. Finally, describe analyze gene expression its importance mechanisms, disorders or diseases related deficits, experimental clinical treatments.

ABSTRACT Interest in individual differences animal behavioural plasticities has surged recent years, but research this area been hampered by semantic confusion as different investigators use the same terms (e.g. plasticity, flexibility, responsiveness) to refer phenomena. The first goal of review is suggest a framework for categorizing many types plasticities, describe examples each, and indicate why using reversibility criterion problematic. This then used address number timely questions about plasticities. One set concerns experimental designs that can be study various Although within‐individual are default option empirical studies some situations when experience at an early age affects behaviour expressed subsequent ages), ‘replicate individual’ provide useful insights into To date, researchers replicate have documented all major categories described herein. Another important question whether how related one another. Currently there evidence [e.g. contextual learning rates, IIV (intra‐individual variability), endogenous ontogenetic plasticities) themselves vary function experiences earlier life, is, plasticity developmentally plastic. These findings support assumption among individuals prior may contribute observed given age. Several authors predicted correlations across between i.e. will generally more plastic than others. However, most these predictions, including indirect from relationships personality traits currently sparse equivocal. final section suggests appreciation similarities help theoreticians formulate testable models explain evolution evolutionary ecological consequences

Depression is characterized by disturbed sleep and eating, a variety of other nonspecific somatic symptoms, significant comorbidities. Why there such close association between cognitive dysfunction in depression nonetheless poorly understood. An explosion research the area interoception-the perception interpretation bodily signals-over last decade holds promise for illuminating what have until now been obscure links social, cognitive-affective, features depression. This article reviews rapidly accumulating evidence that both signaling interoception are frequently altered includes comparative studies showing vagus-mediated effects on depression-like behaviors rodent models as well humans indicating neural substrates (e.g., vagus, insula, anterior cingulate cortex) reduced sensitivity to stimuli integrative framework organizing interpreting this put forward which incorporates (a) multiple potential pathways interoceptive dysfunction; (b) interaction with individual, gender, cultural differences interoception; (c) developmental psychobiological systems perspective, emphasizing likely differential susceptibility across lifespan. Combined current theory evidence, it suggested core symptoms anhedonia, social deficits) may be products interoceptive-exteroceptive integration. The various non-standard schedules required of shift workers force abrupt changes in the timing sleep and light-dark exposure. These result disturbances endogenous circadian system its misalignment with environment. Simulated night-shift experiments field-based studies both indicate that is resistant to adaptation from a day- night-oriented schedule, as determined by lack substantial phase shifts over multiple days centrally controlled rhythms, such those melatonin cortisol. Circadian rhythms (CR) are a series of endogenous autonomous oscillators generated by the molecular circadian clock which acting on coordinating internal time with external environment in 24-h daily cycle. The system is major regulatory factor for nearly all physiological activities and its disorder has severe consequences human health. CR disruption common issue modern society, researches about people jet lag or shift works have revealed that can cause cognitive impairment, psychiatric illness, metabolic syndrome, dysplasia, cancer. In this review, we summarized synchronizers synchronization methods used experimental research, introduced monitoring detection methods. Moreover, evaluated conventional databases, analyzed experiments characterized underlying causes disorder. Finally, further discussed latest developments understanding disruption, how it may be relevant to health disease. Briefly, review aimed synthesize previous studies aid future CR-related diseases.
