Transportation noise is a ubiquitous urban exposure. In 2018, the World Health Organization concluded that chronic exposure to road traffic risk factor for ischemic heart disease. contrast, they quality of evidence link other diseases was very low moderate. Since then, several studies on impact various have been published. Also, investigating mechanistic pathways underlying noise-induced health effects are emerging. We review current regarding and related disease-mechanisms. Several high-quality cohort consistently found be associated with higher disease, failure, diabetes, all-cause mortality. Furthermore, recent indicated railway may increase not commonly investigated in an environmental context, including breast cancer, dementia, tinnitus. The harmful activation physiological stress response nighttime sleep disturbance. Oxidative inflammation downstream hormone signaling dysregulated circadian rhythms identified as major disease-relevant pathomechanistic drivers. discuss role reactive oxygen species present results from antioxidant interventions. Lastly, we provide overview oxidative markers adverse redox processes reported noise-exposed animals humans. This position paper summarizes all available epidemiological, clinical, preclinical transportation important public discusses its implications population level.

Abstract The Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of cardio‐metabolic risk factors and comorbidities conveying high both cardiovascular disease type 2 diabetes. It responsible for huge socio‐economic costs with its resulting morbidity mortality in most countries. underlying aetiology this clustering has been the subject much debate. More recently, significant interest focussed on involvement circadian system, major regulator almost every aspect human health metabolism. Circadian now implicated several chronic diseases including diabetes disease. There increasing evidence connecting disturbances rhythm not only key components but also main sleep disturbances, depression, steatohepatitis cognitive dysfunction. Based this, we propose that disruption may be an important aetiological factor suggest it renamed ‘Circadian Syndrome’. With increased recognition Syndrome’, medicine, through timing exercise, light exposure, food consumption, dispensing medications sleep, likely to play greater role maintenance individual population future.

Gut microbiota, a collection of microorganisms that live within gastrointestinal tract, provides crucial signaling metabolites for the physiological hosts. In healthy state, gut microbiota are helpful maintaining basic functions hosts, whereas disturbed production these can lead to numerous diseases such as metabolic diseases, cardiovascular neurodegenerative and cancer. Although there many reviews about specific mechanisms on is no comprehensive summarization metabolites. this Opinion, we discuss knowledge including types their ways acting targets. addition, summarize pathologic in health shaping composition nutrition. This paper be understanding roles thus provide guidance developing suitable therapeutic strategies combat microbial-driven improve health.

Time-restricted feeding (TRF, animal-based studies) and time-restricted eating (TRE, humans) are an emerging behavioral intervention approach based on the understanding of role circadian rhythms in physiology metabolism. In this approach, all calorie intake is restricted within a consistent interval less than 12 hours without overtly attempting to reduce calories. This article will summarize origin TRF/TRE starting with concept chronic rhythm disruption increasing risk for metabolic diseases. Circadian usually perceived as sleep-wake cycle dependent arising from central nervous system. However, recent discovery peripheral organs plasticity these response changes nutrition availability raised possibility that adopting daily short window can sustain robust rhythm. Preclinical animal studies have demonstrated proof identified potential mechanisms driving TRF-related benefits. Pilot human reported promising results reducing obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular Epidemiological indicated maintaining long overnight fast, which similar TRE, significantly risks Despite early successes, more clinical mechanistic needed implement TRE alone or adjuvant lifestyle prevention management

Abstract Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are fatal for more than 38 million people each year and thus the main contributors to global burden of disease accounting 70% mortality. The majority these deaths caused by cardiovascular (CVD). risk NCDs is strongly associated with exposure environmental stressors such as pollutants in air, noise exposure, artificial light at night, climate change, including heat extremes, desert storms, wildfires. In addition traditional factors CVD diabetes, arterial hypertension, smoking, hypercholesterolaemia, genetic predisposition, there a growing body evidence showing that physicochemical environment contribute significantly high NCD numbers. Furthermore, urbanization accumulation intensification stressors. This comprehensive expert review will summarize epidemiology pathophysiology focus on NCDs. We also discuss solutions mitigation measures lower impact CVD.

The synthesis and secretion of cortisol are controlled by the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis. Cortisol exhibits a proper 24-h circadian rhythm that affects brain, autonomic nervous system, heart, vasculature prepares cardiovascular system for optimal function during these anticipated behavioral cycles. A literature search was conducted using databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus. Relevant terms included “circadian cardiovascular”, “cortisol”, “cortisol acute coronary syndrome”, arrhythmias”, sudden cardiac death”, stroke”, “cardioprotective agents”. total 120 articles were obtained on basis above search. Lower levels seen at beginning sleep, while there rise towards end with highest level reached moment individual wakes up. In present review, we discuss role 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11β-HSD1), which is novel molecular target interest treating metabolic syndrome type-2 diabetes mellitus. 11β-HSD1 major determinant excess, its inhibition alleviates abnormalities. review highlights cortisol, controls rhythm, describes effect system. provides platform future potential cardioprotective therapeutic agents.

Hundreds of studies have found that weak magnetic fields can significantly influence various biological systems. However, the underlying mechanisms behind these phenomena remain elusive. Remarkably, energies implicated in effects are much smaller than thermal energies. Here, we review observations, and suggest an explanation based on radical pair mechanism, which involves quantum dynamics electron nuclear spins transient molecules. While mechanism has been studied detail context avian magnetoreception, reviewed here show magnetosensitivity is widespread throughout biology. We field physiological functions, discussing static, hypomagnetic oscillating fields, as well isotope effects. then a potential unifying model for described effects, discuss plausible candidate molecules pairs. recent proposing provides explanations xenon anaesthesia lithium treatment hyperactivity, circadian clock, neurogenesis microtubule assembly. conclude by future lines investigation this exciting new area

The circadian rhythm is an evolutionarily conserved time-keeping system that comprises a wide variety of processes including sleep-wake cycles, eating-fasting and activity-rest coordinating the behavior physiology all organs for whole-body homeostasis. Acute disruption may lead to transient discomfort, whereas long-term irregular will result in dysfunction organism, therefore increasing risks numerous diseases especially cancers. Indeed, both epidemiological experimental evidence has demonstrated intrinsic link between dysregulated cancer. Accordingly, rapidly understanding molecular mechanisms rhythms opening new options cancer therapy, possibly by modulating clock. In this review, we first describe general regulators their functions on addition, provide insights into underlying how several types (including sleep-wake, eating-fasting, activity-rest) can drive progression, which expand our development from clock perspective. Moreover, also summarize potential applications treatment, optional therapeutic strategy patients.
