Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are known to bioaccumulate in aquatic organisms, such as shellfish, have been linked adverse human health outcomes. Increasing attention has focused on method development for the detection of PFAS various media; however, these methods typically tedious, require high solvent volumes, time consuming. The present used a Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, Safe (QuEChERS) extraction approach analysis by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) detect 28 Eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) tissue. This was validated using limit detection, quantitation, precision accuracy studies. Limits ranged from 0.2 5.8 ng g−1, limits quantitation 0.66 19.2 recoveries spanned 52.1–105.9% at 100 mL−1 analyte level. Analysis 12 unknown composite samples revealed PFHxA, PFPeS, PFOA, PFHpA PFOS least two compounds were detected each sample. proved be an efficient environmentally friendly sample preparation complex tissue media, oysters.

Prenatal exposure to metals/metalloids, even at common US population levels, may pose risks fetal health, and affect children's lung function. Yet, the combined effects of simultaneous prenatal exposures on function remain largely unexplored. This study analyzed 11 metals (As speciation, Cd, Co, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, Sn, Zn) in maternal urine during weeks 24-28 gestation evaluated function, including forced vital capacity (FVC) expiratory volume first second expiration (FEV1), 316 mother-child pairs around age 7. We used Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression (BKMR), weighted quantile sum regression (WQSR), multiple linear examine association between metal mixture adjusting for smoking, child age, sex, height. In BKMR models assessing effects, limited evidence non-linearity or interactions was found. Nevertheless, As species, Pb showed a negative association, while Mo exhibited positive with FVC FEV1, other held constant their medians. The index, from WQSR analysis cumulative impact all metals, highlighted highest weight, As, Sb most substantial weights FEV1. Urinary Co were negatively associated (β = -0.09, 95% confidence interval (CI) (-0.18; -0.01) β -0.07, CI (-0.13; 0.00), respectively). also FEV1 0.00). There FVC, both though wide intervals. Our findings suggest that trace element emphasizing importance reducing toxic maintaining adequate nutrient levels.

The etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is multifactorial, involving genetic and environmental contributors such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).To evaluate the association between perinatal exposure to 27 potential EDCs ASD among Norwegian children, further examine neurodevelopmental toxicity associated using zebrafish embryos larvae.1,199 mothers enrolled in prospective birth-cohort (HUMIS, 2002-2009) study. Breastmilk levels were measured: polychlorinated biphenyls, organochlorine pesticides, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, perfluoroalkyl substances a proxy for exposure. We employed multivariable logistic regression determine association, utilized elastic net variable selection method, conducted an vivo study with larvae confirm effect.A total 20 children had specialist confirmed diagnosis 1,199 mother-child pairs this β-Hexachlorocyclohexane (β-HCH) was only chemical ASD, after adjusting 26 other chemicals. Mothers highest β-HCH their milk significant increased risk having child (OR = 1.82, 95 % CI: 1.20, 2.77 interquartile range increase ln-transformed concentration). median concentration breast 4.37 ng/g lipid (interquartile range: 2.92-6.47), estimated daily intake (EDI) through breastfeeding 0.03 µg/kg body weight. social behavioral effects established across various concentrations, analysis suggesting that perturbation dopaminergic neuron development may underlie neurotoxicity β-HCH.Prenatal specialist-confirmed diagnoses EDI surpasses threshold. Zebrafish experiments neurotoxicity, disruption underlying mechanism.
