Abstract It was found that aryl nitriles could be synthetized by cleavage of C(OH)−C bonds in the presence oxygen gas, (NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 and Cu(OAc) . The present protocol allowed various secondary alcohols to undergo transformation give low high yields. Lignin‐related β ‐O‐4 ‐1 linkages converted benzonitriles under conditions, which provides an avenue obtain value nitrile products via fragmentation lignin.
