Water can accelerate a variety of organic reactions far beyond the rates observed in classical solvents. However, using pure water as solvent introduces solubility constraints that have limited applicability efficient photochemistry particular. We report here formation aggregates between pairs arenes, heteroarenes, enamines, or esters with different electron affinities an aqueous medium, leading to oil-water phase boundary through substrate melting point depression. The active hydrogen atoms reactants engage bonds water, thereby accelerating photochemical reactions. This methodology realizes appealingly simple conditions for coupling complex solid molecules, including drug molecules are poorly soluble water.

The peroxynitrite anion (ONOO- ) is closely associated with many diseases and the creation of ONOO- donors an essential means understanding its pathophysiological functions. However, it challenging to develop due difficulties in simultaneously producing highly reactive short-lived nitric oxide (NO) superoxide (O2 ⋅- ). Here, we report a novel strategy for constructing by combining near-infrared (NIR)-mediated type I photosensitization photoredox catalysis. key design using Nile blue analogue that can serve as both photosensitizer metal-free photocatalyst. Intriguingly, formation O2 via avoids oxygen interference instead activates nitrobenzofurazan-based NO oxygen-tolerant NIR simultaneous release leads release, showing antibacterial antibiofilm activities.

Photocatalyzed reactions of organic substances in aqueous media are challenging transformations, often because scarce solubility substrates and catalyst deactivation. Herein, we report single-chain nanoparticles, SCNPs, capable efficiently catalyzing four different "in water" by employing visible light as the only external energy source. Specifically, decorated a high-molecular-weight copolymer, poly(OEGMA300-r-AEMA), with iridium(III) cyclometalated complex pendants at varying content amounts. The isolated functionalized copolymers demonstrated self-assembly into noncovalent, amphiphilic SCNPs water, which enabled efficient visible-light photocatalysis two unprecedentedly reported namely, [2 + 2] photocycloaddition vinyl arenes α-arylation N-arylamines. Additionally, aerobic oxidation 9-substituted anthracenes β-sulfonylation α-methylstyrene were successfully carried out media. Hence, merging metal-mediated for fabrication artificial photoenzyme-like nano-objects─i.e., photosynthases (APS)─our work broadens possibilities performing transformations via photocatalysis.

Radical reactions in water or aqueous media are important for organic synthesis, realizing high-yielding processes under non-toxic and environmentally friendly conditions. This overview includes (i) a general introduction to chemistry media, (ii) synthetic approaches in, on, with as well heterogeneous phases, (iii) of carbon-centered radicals (or deuterium oxide) activated through coordination various Lewis acids, (iv) photocatalysis (v) applications bioinspired by naturally occurring processes. A wide range chemical strategies different experimental conditions have been reviewed that lead functional group translocation transformation reactions, leading the preparation complex molecules. These results reveal how solvent/medium/reagent radical has matured over last two decades, further discoveries anticipated near future.
