There is conceptual overlap between mental toughness and resilience, self-efficacy, grit, although few studies have empirically examined the them.In addition, little research has extent to which there an empirical advantage of using framework predict outcomes interest. The current study therefore explored predictive validity toughness, specifically in terms it predicts happiness over above cognate constructs grit.Three hundred sixty-seven participants completed measures happiness. The correlations variables were explored, a hierarchical regression analysis was conducted examine predicted grit. There significant selfefficacy, grit. When self-efficacy grit entered into each them predictor happiness, but when added they no longer predictors, with commitment, control emotion, life, confidence abilities, interpersonal components being predictors. Therefore, despite overlap, if aim or practice identify individuals at risk poor wellbeing, then this better met construct toughness. The role also suggests value examining impact interventions domain wellbeing.

Abstract: Grit, defined as passion and perseverance for long-term goals, has received much attention over the last decade. However, its dimensionality is still very up debate. The present study examines whether bidimensional structure of construct a statistical artifact caused by item reversal. sample consisted 1,115 participants ( M years = 38.92; SD 15.08), whom 67.3% were women. Several confirmatory models specified with different versions two grit scales. A bifactor model grit-general factor method-specific factors (one direct items, other reversed items) demonstrated better fit according to all indicators (Original Grit-S: CFI .995, RMSEA .024; Mixed .966, .068; EGO: .985, .051) than theoretical (perseverance effort consistency interests, Original .933, .085; .944, .088; .982, .056). Grit unidimensional construct, dimensions identified in previous studies (consistency interests effort) result due In addition, redirecting items modified Grit-S scale. practical implications are discussed.

Abstract: The allegedly new volitional-motivational personality construct “grit” is seen as both theoretically and empirically relevant for a host of educational life outcomes. In recent debate, however, it has been argued that the should be considered amalgam its two assumed subdimensions Perseverance Effort (PE) Consistency Interest (CI). Opponents this argument note distinction between dimensions may merely result different wording (positive negative) in associated questionnaires. We systematically investigated notion based on sample N = 881 high school students. Participants responded to one four versions short grit scale (Grit-S) asking about their math, foreign language English, history. items PE CI were each worded either positively or negatively, with all combinations realized. Our results support strong effect but still correlated distinguishable subdimensions. Finally, our highlight importance differentiating subjects when investigating grit.
