Does mental toughness predict happiness over and above resilience, self-efficacy and grit?

There
is
conceptual
overlap
between
mental
toughness
and
resilience,
self-efficacy,
grit,
although
few
studies
have
empirically
examined
the
them.In
addition,
little
research
has
extent
to
which
there
an
empirical
advantage
of
using
framework
predict
outcomes
interest.The
current
study
therefore
explored
predictive
validity
toughness,
specifically
in
terms
it
predicts
happiness
over
above
cognate
constructs
grit.Three
hundred
sixty-seven
participants
completed
measures
happiness.The
correlations
variables
were
explored,
a
hierarchical
regression
analysis
was
conducted
examine
predicted
grit.There
significant
selfefficacy,
grit.When
self-efficacy
grit
entered
into
each
them
predictor
happiness,
but
when
added
they
no
longer
predictors,
with
commitment,
control
emotion,
life,
confidence
abilities,
interpersonal
components
being
predictors.Therefore,
despite
overlap,
if
aim
or
practice
identify
individuals
at
risk
poor
wellbeing,
then
this
better
met
construct
toughness.The
role
also
suggests
value
examining
impact
interventions
domain
wellbeing.

Grit,

Abstract:
The
allegedly
new
volitional-motivational
personality
construct
“grit”
is
seen
as
both
theoretically
and
empirically
relevant
for
a
host
of
educational
life
outcomes.
In
recent
debate,
however,
it
has
been
argued
that
the
should
be
considered
amalgam

two
assumed
subdimensions
Perseverance
Effort
(PE)
Consistency
Interest
(CI).
Opponents
this
argument

distinction
between
dimensions
may
merely
result
different
wording
(positive
negative)
in
associated
questionnaires.
We
systematically
investigated
notion
based
on
sample
N
=
881
high
school
students.
Participants
responded
to
one
four
versions
short
grit
scale
(Grit-S)
asking
about
their
math,
foreign
language
English,
history.

were
each
worded
either
positively
or
negatively,
with
all
combinations
realized.

results
support
strong
effect

still
correlated
