Filamentous
fungi
are
highly
productive
cell
factories,
many
of
which
industrial
producers
enzymes,
organic
acids,
and
secondary
metabolites.
The
increasing
number
sequenced
fungal
genomes
revealed
a
vast
unexplored
biosynthetic
potential
in
the
form
transcriptionally
silent
metabolite
gene
clusters
(BGCs).
Various
strategies
have
been
carried
out
to
explore
mine
this
untapped
source
bioactive
molecules,
with
advent
synthetic
biology,
novel
applications,
tools
developed
for
filamentous
fungi.
Here
we
summarize
approaches
aiming
expression
endogenous
or
exogenous
natural
product
BGCs,
including
transcription
factors,
assembly
artificial
units,
cluster
refactoring,
shuttle
vectors,
platform
strains.

Ants
communicate
via
large
arrays
of
pheromones
and
possess
expanded,
highly
complex
olfactory
systems,
with
antennal
lobes
in
the
brain
comprising
up
to
∼500
glomeruli.
This
expansion
implies
that
odors
could
activate
hundreds
glomeruli,
which
would
pose
challenges
for
higher-order
processing.
To
study
this
problem,
we
generated
transgenic
ants
expressing
genetically
encoded
calcium
indicator
GCaMP
sensory
neurons.
Using
two-photon
imaging,
mapped
complete
glomerular
responses
four
ant
alarm
pheromones.
Alarm
robustly
activated
≤6
activity
maps

research
uses
thiolated
HPMA
construct
nanoparticles
(nanoodors)
capable
delivering
drugs
CNS
via
olfacto-cerebral
pathway

obstruction.

nanoodor
core
is
used
encapsulate
agomelatine
(AGO),
a
CNS-targeting
antidepressant,
encapsulation
efficiency

ABSTRACT
Mosquitoes
are
best
known
for
their
proclivity
towards
biting
humans
and
transmitting
bloodborne
pathogens,
but
there
over
3500
species,
including
both
blood-feeding
non-blood-feeding
taxa.
The
diversity
of
host
preference
in
mosquitoes
is
exemplified
by
the
feeding
habits
genus
Malaya
that
feed
on
ant
regurgitation
or
those
from
Uranotaenia
favor
amphibian
hosts.
Host
also
no
means
static,
characterized
behavioral
plasticity
allows
to
switch
hosts
when
preferred
unavailable
learning
cues
associated
with
positive
negative
experiences.
Here
we
review
diverse
range
host-preference
behaviors
across
family
Culicidae,
which
includes
all
mosquitoes,
how
adaptations
neural
circuitry
might
affect
changes
within
life
history
a
mosquito
evolutionary
time-scales.
