Summary Many obesity risk factors have increased during the COVID‐19 pandemic, including physical inactivity, poor diet, stress, and poverty. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate impact as well associated lockdowns or restrictions, on weight change in children adults. We searched five databases from January 2020 November 2021. included only longitudinal studies with measures before pandemic that evaluated weight, body mass index (BMI) (or BMI z ‐scores for children), waist circumference, prevalence obesity. Random effects meta‐analyses were conducted obtain pooled estimates mean difference outcomes. Subgroups age groups diabetes at baseline. bias assessed using a modified version Newcastle‐Ottawa Scale, certainty evidence Grading Recommendations, Assessment, Development Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Abstract Background Overweight and obesity represent huge concerns for children's physical mental well-being. This study examined the relationship between body mass index (BMI) health-related quality of life (HRQoL), somatoform complaints, behavioral problems in children adolescents. Additionally, influence sex, age, socioeconomic status (SES) on these associations was considered. Methods In total, we studied 2350 participants ages 4 18 years (1213 4- to 10-years-old (child sample) 1137 11-to 18-year-olds (adolescent sample)). To assess HRQoL, difficulties, applied KIDSCREEN-27, a short form Giessen Complaints Questionnaire, Strengths Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The BMI transformed standard deviation scores (BMI-SDS), according German gender- age-specific reference data. Associations were investigated using linear regression analyses. Each association checked interaction with SES. Results Regarding found worsening well-being psychological increasing BMI-SDS. Somatoform complaints not significantly associated Conduct problems, peer emotional (the latter only adolescent positively While did observe any significant interactions some age and/or Conclusion Our findings highlight importance difficulties adolescents higher and, consequently, underline relevance including interventions treatment overweight or obesity.

The dramatic lifestyle changes forced by COVID-19-related lockdown promoted weight gain, with a stronger impact on obese subjects, at higher risk of severe infection. PubMed database was searched to identify original studies assessing: (1) the extent and factors lockdown-induced increase; (2) obesity hospital admission in children adolescents. A systematic literature review meta-analyses were performed. Twenty out 13,986 identified records included. significant increase reported majority no apparent gender or age differences. Higher weight represents a significant health concern in youth and may be influenced by socioeconomic behavioral factors. We investigated the relationship between BMI parental education, nutritional health, eating culture, organized non-organized physical activity (PA), motives for PA (weight loss/maintenance, enjoyment), screen-time children adolescents. 677 2- to 11-year-olds (young-age-group) 464 12- 20-year-olds (old-age-group) from Leipzig, city Germany, participated. applied multivariate linear regression analyses assess associations. BMI-SDS was negatively associated with education (young-age-group: b = -0.25, p < 0.001, old-age-group: -0.27, 0.02), -0.23, 0.029), enjoyment -0.05, 0.01, 0.038), but media use during dinner (old-age-group: 0.53, 0.001), loss/maintenance 0.15, 0.12, 0.11, 0.009, 0.09, 0.001). Significant interactions age, sex were observed. A lower is high screen-free eating, higher participation screen-time. While measures of motivation limited thus findings should interpreted caution, intrinsic whereas extrinsic BMI. In German cohort adolescents, less screen time, more dinner. Intrinsic are directly linked status These associations particularly strong families low/medium formal education.
