Reduced riverine sediment supply and sea-level rise (SLR) threaten land building ecosystem in deltas. However, the sediment-morphodynamic processes a channel-shoal complex are not well understood. Here, based on bathymetry Delft3D model, geomorphic changes suspended budgets South Passage, Nanhui Jiuduansha Shoal mega-Changjiang Delta were examined. Results reveal that with concentration (SSC) decreased by 75%, net deposition rate was reduced from 4.20 cm/yr 1979–1990 to 3.21 1990–2003, further declined 2.21 2003–2013 0.40 2013–2020. Severe erosion occurred along upper Passage extended toward mouth bar. Strong accretions accumulated Shoal. After river SSC 0.53 kg/m3 0.35 kg/m3, 0.16 0.12 lowered 3.13%, 7.35% 8.67%, respectively. Moreover, SLR of 5 cm, 15 25 50 cm resulted 1.11%, 4.18%, 4.16%, 14.79% reduction trapping efficiency. Our findings highlight strong likelihood input, SLRs intensified anthropogenic effects will exacerbate deficit mega fluvial-tidal

Deltas like the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta (GBD) experience significant land subsidence due to overlaying load, consolidation, sediment compaction, regional tectonics, and human activity. The southwestern region of Bangladesh, marked by its low-lying floodplain with compressible sediments, experiences subsidence. However, accurate assessments for these areas are very scarce, often focusing on point-based measurements. This study employed Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar analysis, spanning from 2014 2022, effectively measure subsidence, visualize it spatially. In area, rates were found be ranging 3 20 mm/year, most experiencing 3-10 mm/year. While some show higher 10-13 few exceeded 14 average rate was 5.98 demonstrating spatial variability, in Gopalganj, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, other areas. findings validated based existing Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) data points, affirming their reliability. Despite minor discrepancies measurements at specific overall results align well data. comprehensive analysis provides a detailed assessment highlighting variability offering valuable insights future coastal development risk mitigation strategies.

Abstract The world’s coasts and deltas are progressively threatened by climate change human activities. degree at which coastlines can adapt to these changes strongly depends on the sediment availability. availability of muddy sediments is however poorly known. This study aims developing a mud budget for largest system uninterrupted tidal flats: Wadden Sea. resulting nearly closed: ~ 12 million ton/year enters its western end, 1.5 added local rivers, while ton annually deposits or extracted anthropogenic A deficit already exists in downdrift areas, will only become more pronounced with increased sea level rise rates. Mud thus finite resource similar sand, should be treated as such management strategies. Resolving future challenges therefore require cross-border perspective management.

Abstract Earthquakes present severe hazards for people and economies can be primary drivers of landscape change yet their impact to river-channel networks remains poorly known.
