The vaginal microbiome is a distinct component of the human that colonized by wide variety microorganisms. Lactobacilli are most frequently identified microorganisms in healthy vagina. These Gram-positive bacilli can acidify microenvironment, inhibit proliferation other pathogenic microorganisms, and promote maintenance eubiotic microbiome. However, flora with reduced proportion or abundance lactobacilli associated various infections have been linked to serious health consequences such as infertility, preterm birth, pelvic inflammatory disease, premature rupture membranes, miscarriage. Due their “Generally Recognized Safe” classification critical role health, probiotic widely used an alternative adjunct traditional antibiotic therapy for treatment restoration This review focuses on significant microenvironment discusses use female vitro vivo .

More than one million curable sexually transmitted infections occur every day. Trichomonas vaginalis is of the main responsible for these epidemiological data; however, diagnosis this protozoan still mainly based on microscopic and culture identification. The commercialization immunological tests development molecular techniques have improved sensitivity classical methods. Nevertheless, fact that trichomoniasis a neglected parasitic infection hinders novel their implementation in routine diagnosis. This review article shows different methods developed to identify T. population difficulties diagnosing male asymptomatic patients. importance including parasite gynecological screening, especially pregnant women, considering as an indicator high-risk sexual behavior are also discussed.

Background/Objectives: A wide range of syphilis-related pregnancy complications are encountered in clinical practice. Active surveillance the epidemiological situation different countries and a series retrospective data analyses allow for comprehensive assessment feasible consequences syphilis infection during pregnancy. The negative effects on reproductive health also described. Risk-increasing factors (inadequate or late treatment, partner coinfection) protective (timely diagnostics treatment) distinguished. importance adequate timely management as well accessibility healthcare socioeconomic status, which influence outcomes, stressed. This article presents rare case untreated was diagnosed first antenatal visit; how-ever, treatment not initiated. At 33rd week gestation, patient admitted to hospital because sparse bloody vaginal discharge. Following sudden fetal hypoxia, an urgent cesarean section performed at 33 weeks gestation. preterm newborn delivered critical condition, congenital diagnosed. Methods: We searched PubMed, Cochrane, MeSH databases using key search terms “treponema pallidum”, “sexually transmitted infections”, “pregnancy”, “congenital infection”, “syphilis”, syphilis”, their combinations. total 28 papers published over ten-year period were included literature review. analyzed. Results: impact is quite evident. Our showcased one most common impacts, i.e., premature birth, infections with associated bacterial meningitis, respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ damage, insufficient weight. Such associations many adverse outcomes neonatal defects often avoidable. Conclusions: Considering potential infections, issue sexually diseases remains relevant, improving diagnostic opportunities becomes paramount cases increase.

Recent data on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and bacterial vaginosis (BV) in the general population of Madagascar is scarce. Our objective to estimate Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Trichomonas vaginalis (TV), Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), BV prevalence among women determine associated risk factors. We recruited aged 18–45 years consulting at a hospital Antananarivo cross-sectional study. collected socio-demographic behavioral data. Vaginal swabs were for each individual. STIs detected by qPCR using Nugent score. explored factors with having an STI logistic regressions. Of 501 women, 242 (48%) married. Only one woman three ever used condoms. The CT was 11.8% (95% Confidence Interval: 9.0, 14.6), NG: 4.2% (2.4, 5.9), TV: 14.8% (11.7, 17.9), MG: 8.2% (5.8, 10.6), BV: 39.6% (35.3, 43.9). Factors sex exchange favors (adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR): 4.25, 95%CI: 1.27, 16.6), (aOR: 2.14, 1.34, 3.47) or intermediate vaginal microbiota 2.10, 1.19, 3.72), being non-marital relationship compared married 1.86, 1.16, 2.98). To address high STIs, prevention programs should target who are more likely engage empower them negotiation skills condom use. Given elevated dysbiosis its association it crucial prioritize research efforts toward comprehensive understanding this relationship.

In recent years, the relationship between microbiota and various aspects of health has become a focal point scientific investigation. Although most studied concern gastrointestinal tract, recently, interest also been extended to other body districts. Female genital tract dysbiosis its possible impact on pathologies such as endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), gynecological cancers have unveiled. The incursion pathogenic microbes alters ecological equilibrium vagina, triggering inflammation compromising immune defense, potentially fostering an environment conducive cancer development. common types include cervical, endometrial, ovarian cancer, which occur in women any age but especially postmenopausal women. Several studies highlighted that low presence lactobacilli at vaginal level, consequently, related areas (such endometrium ovary), correlates with higher risk pathology likely contributes increased incidence worse prognosis cancers. complex interplay microbial communities development, progression, treatment gynecologic malignancies is burgeoning field not yet fully understood. intricate crosstalk gut systemic introduces new dimension our understanding objective this review focus attention association provide detailed knowledge for future diagnostic therapeutic strategies.

Background The ability to access and navigate online sexual health information support is increasingly needed in order engage with wider healthcare. However, people from underserved populations may struggle pass though this “digital doorway”. Therefore, using a behavioural science approach, we first aimed identify barriers facilitators i) seeking ii) support. Subsequently, generate theory-informed recommendations improve these points. Methods PROGRESSPlus framework guided purposive recruitment (15.10.21–18.03.22) of 35 UK participants diverse backgrounds, including 51% the most deprived areas 26% minoritised ethnic groups. Using semi-structured interviews thematic analysis, identified A Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) analysis then better meet needs populations. Results We found facilitators. Barriers included low awareness familiarity support; perceptions that were unlikely populations; overwhelming volume sources; lack personal relevancy; chatbots/automated responses; response wait times. Facilitators clarity about credibility quality; inclusive content; in-person assistance. Recommendations included: Education Persuasion e.g., offline promotion endorsement by healthcare professionals peers; Training Modelling accessible training enhance searching skills appraisal; Environmental Restructuring Enablement modifications ensure are simple easy use, video/audio options for content. Conclusions Given many services now digital, our analyses produced pivotal increasing among Implementing could reduce inequalities associated accessing service.

Women need multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) to simultaneously prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, with or without contraception. User feedback early in product development is critical for maximizing uptake and continuation. Our global online survey (April 2017-December 2018) explored women's opinions about MPT formulations (e.g., fast-dissolving vaginal inserts, films, intravaginal rings, injectables, implants), preferences long-acting "on-demand" methods, interest a contraceptive versus products HIV/STI alone. Of the 630 women our final analysis (mean 30 years old; range 18-49), 68% were monogamous, 79% completed secondary education, 58% had ≥ 1 child, 56% from sub-Saharan Africa 82% preferred cMPT There no clear any specific type (long-acting, on-demand, daily). No single will appeal everyone, however, adding contraception likely increase of methods most women.
