Abstract Zero-phase-delay synchrony between the activity of distant neural populations has been robustly observed. Nevertheless, contemporary electroencephalography and magnetencephalography functional connectivity analyses typically exclude zero-phase-delay connections, assuming that they are predominantly artefactual. However, effects excluding them on performance metrics as potential biomarkers unknown. Here, we showed most cortico-cortical connections occur with zero- or near-zero phase-delay, even where such was unlikely to be Including, rather than excluding, increased reliability, concordance structural connectivity, predictive validity (for longitudinal changes in cognition) metrics. We found penalised strength strongest structurally connected regions: stronger led phase-delays closer zero, mediated by a shorter signal propagation time. Our findings challenge generally accepted assumptions zero-phase-exclusive methods superior zero-phase-inclusive methods.

Understanding the large-scale information processing that underlies complex human cognition is central goal of cognitive neuroscience. While emerging activity flow models demonstrate task transferred by interregional functional or structural connectivity, graph-theory-based typically assume neural communication occurs via shortest path brain networks. However, whether optimal route for empirical transmission remains unclear. Based on a mapping framework, we found performance prediction with was significantly lower than direct path. The routing superior to other network strategies, including search information, ensembles, and navigation. Intriguingly, outperformed in when physical distance constraint asymmetric contribution were simultaneously considered. This study not only challenges assumption through but also suggests constrained spatial embedding network.

Abstract The fornix, playing a critical role in memory formation and maintenance, is recognized as an ultra-early biomarker for dementia. However, its trajectory during healthy aging remains incompletely understood. This study employed ultra-high-field 5.0 T MRI to acquire high-resolution anatomical multishell diffusion imaging data from 376 adults aged 18 85. aim was correlate fornix characteristics with cognitive performance across multiple domains map lifespan trajectories. Using these data, we quantified volume tractography. Lifespan trajectories were identified by computing age-specific average patterns, which revealed distinct changes. Notably, nonlinear declines observed, contrasting fiber tract peaks between ages 40, subsequently influenced volume-connectivity interactions. Additionally, shift predominant left-side right-side dominance noted aging. Regression analyses indicated that variations structure significantly moderated, rather than mediated, age-related differences performance. These results provide novel insights into the of fornix’s morphology structural connectivity individual

ABSTRACT Background Prior research has consistently shown an association between muscle strength and various metabolic diseases. However, the relationship cognitive impairment remains elusive. Methods Using data from 2011–2014 National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), we investigated impairment. We used multivariate logistic regression, restricted cubic spline regression (RCS), threshold effects to investigate impact of on function. In addition, analyzed correlation in subgroups age, gender, race, education, smoking status, drinking hypertension, diabetes, heart disease. Results 2124 participants were ultimately included for further analysis. Multivariate trend testing, RCS analysis showed a non‐linear negative Threshold effect suggests that when reaches certain value, this undergoes significant changes. three function scoring tests, interaction was only observed racial subgroup. Conclusion This study function, which may have effect. Further longitudinal studies are needed elucidate its potential mechanisms.
