The COVID-19 pandemic caused a global health crisis with large behavioral effects and serious stress social consequences. Particularly, teenagers suffered pandemic-related restrictions including school closures. This study examined whether how structural brain development was influenced by the length associated accumulating or resilience of development. We investigated changes in regions (medial prefrontal cortex: mPFC; temporoparietal junction: TPJ) as well stress-related hippocampus amygdala, using longitudinal design 2 MRI waves. selected two age-matched subgroups (9-13 years old) which one tested before (n=114) other during (peri-pandemic group, n=204) pandemic. Results indicated that peri-pandemic group showed accelerated mPFC compared to before-pandemic group. Furthermore, TPJ growth immediate followed possibly subsequent recovery returned typical developmental pattern. No were observed for amygdala. These findings suggest experiencing measures had on but negative effects. Follow-up assessments are needed test acceleration over longer periods.

Variability did not differ between early (age 10-15) late 16-21) adolescence, but adolescence associated higher mean levels prosociality. Finally, results indicated that measured over longer periods (i.e., two-years one-year) positively cognitive processes (perspective taking), whereas shorter two-monthly) affective (empathy).
