Humans are integrally connected to, yet in many ways disconnected from, nature. Across cultures, nature has been celebrated and revered religion, traditions, rituals community connectedness. While unfavorable conditions can cause harm, closer contact with shown to reduce stress, strengthen immune systems, improve mental health physical wellbeing. This paper briefly describes outdoor therapies a range of nature-based interventions assisting practitioners serving their clients across numerous healthcare psychological treatment fields. We bring attention the historical integration healing practices reduced connection that Western societies experience today. know no one psychotherapeutic approach is necessarily better or more effective than another, but rather, we propose offer an evolutionary human beyond psychotherapy. The added value therapy outdoors recognizes biologically part nature, healthier when it. To locate this within corpus conventional therapeutic literature, brief overview offered, common factors proposed.

Nature-based interventions (NBIs) benefit human well-being, but clinical trials comparing different NBIs in various natural environments are scarce. To evaluate the efficacy of a multicomponent nature-based intervention (MNBI) comparison to control group (classical forest bathing). well-being; Secondary outcomes: vitality, happiness, connection, and engagement with nature across urban, peri-urban, rural areas. Randomized trial 486 participants between October/2022 June/2023, from five areas Southeast Southern/Brazil. Well-being was assessed immediately before activity 30 days after, secondary outcomes before, after after. The data analyses considered 95 % confidence interval p-values < 0.05. main hypothesis confirmed, well-being levels MNBI were significantly improved, especially peri-urban (p = 0.036). Both groups increased vitality 0.001), more effective overall 0.038), urban 0.020). Happiness both maintained higher post-intervention 0.010). Nature connection 0.001) remained 0.021), 0.034). Nature exposure improves mental health, human capital, and economic productivity. Outcomes are well established, drivers mechanisms less so. Thrill + skill activities, additional to exercise nature, least studied. We analyse their effects for 40 mid-life women surfers in 16 countries, contrasted with hikers. use an 11-year ethnography, semi-structured interviews, thematic analysis under interpretive grounded theory. The perceive that surfing strongly resilience stress, irrespective of any concurrent clinical therapy. They identify three mechanisms: creating happiness or joy; activity, thrill, triumph self-esteem; social, support friendship from other surfers. these as building a cumulative buffer gratitude life, which provides against setbacks. Abstract Well-being (WB) extends beyond physical health, as defined by the World Health Organization and encompasses two aspects: (1) long-term WB (LWB), such overall life satisfaction; (2) momentary (MWB), immediate mood. While research has demonstrated a positive association between one’s environment LWB, limited studies have explored environmental characteristics MWB. We applied experience sampling method (ESM) to collect data on location, perceived characteristics, MWB, LWB of adult participants living in Kashiwa-no-ha area, Kashiwa City, Japan. Structural equation modeling was used calculate correlation coefficients different environments both MWB LWB. positively associated with (standardized coefficient=0.24) urban elements—cafés/restaurants/bars (0.11), cultural/sports/education facilities (0.04), public spaces (0.11). Abstract To advance the theoretical and practical underpinnings for nature therapies, i.e. exposure as a means to improve mental health, we compared most memorable sensory experiences reported by forest tourists in Australia, Chile, China Japan. Abstract Nature connection is a common construct in research examining relationships between the natural environment and human well‐being. The multidimensionality of concept often described but rarely reflected existing unidimensional measures, which can also be limited by poor psychometric characteristics. This aimed to develop validate new brief (9‐item) multidimensional self‐report measure: Experiences Questionnaire (NEQ). Scale items were formulated from review relevant literature consultation with experts. Study 1 investigated underlying structure using exploratory factor analysis sample 142 undergraduate psychology students. resulting three‐factor solution was replicated Studies 2 3 confirmatory analyses independent samples community members ( n = 231) workers 2629). Abstract This study aimed to understand the relationship between walking path preferences and street characteristics of older adults who live in suburban areas. Physical inactivity is more prevalent developed countries because trends urban design built environments over past several decades have led car-oriented development. Compared areas, areas different characteristics, including limited traffic, a high rate aging, low floor area ratios, building heights. We measured spontaneous 30 for two months using GPS loggers calculated Walk Score, Green View Index (GVI), Sky Ratio (SVR), existence sidewalk. Participants walked ≥ 1 km on 20 days during 2-month experiment were classified as active group, whereas others inactive group. The results showed that group preferred with significantly higher GVI, Score. In addition, there was positive correlation distance both GVI SVR. findings important implications planners seeking create supportive environment promotes outdoor activity.
