While
the
construct
of
self-deception
has
received
ample
theoretical
and
empirical
attention,
its
virtuous
counterpart—self-honesty—has
been
largely
neglected.
Yet,
as
argued
here
elsewhere,
metacognitive
practice
being
honest
with
oneself
may
be
among
most
crucial
concomitants
psychological
growth
change.
Consequently,
drawing
on
theory
research
from
across
several
disciplines,
this
paper
proposes
a
novel
framework
for
understanding
measuring
self-honesty
core
value.
Using
data
three
separate
studies
that
explore
via
newly
developed
self-report,
implicit
association
test
an
ecological
momentary
assessment
measure,
findings
offer
preliminary
support
distinct,
psychometrically
valid
reliable
relevance
to
multiple
indices
functioning.
Pending
further
research,
these
have
potentially
far-reaching
implications
our
promotion
human
virtue
flourishing.
