Cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (CVMD) are the leading causes of death worldwide, underscoring urgent necessity to develop new pharmacotherapies. Berberine (BBR) is an eminent component traditional Chinese Ayurvedic medicine for more than 2000 years. Recently, BBR has attracted much interest its pharmacological actions in treating and/or managing CVMD. Recent discoveries basic, translational clinical studies have identified many novel molecular targets (such as AMPK, SIRT1, LDLR, PCSK9, PTP1B) provided evidences supporting promising therapeutic potential combat Thus, this review provides a timely overview properties application CVMD, underlines recent advances which validate lead drug against

Abstract The gut microbiota (GM) is related to obesity and other metabolic diseases. To detect GM markers for in patients with different abnormalities investigate their relationships clinical indicators, 1,914 Chinese adults were enrolled 16S rRNA gene sequencing this retrospective study. Based on composition, Random forest classifiers constructed screen the (Group OA) or without diseases O) from healthy individuals H), high accuracies observed discrimination of Group O OA (areas under receiver operating curve (AUC) equal 0.68 0.76, respectively). Furthermore, six shared by various disorders ( Bacteroides , Parabacteroides Blautia Alistipes Romboutsia Roseburia ). As O, exhibited low accuracy (AUC = 0.57). Nonetheless, classifications distinguish between obese specific not accurate values 0.59 0.66). Common biomarkers identified uric acid, serum lipids blood pressure, such as Clostridium XIVa, . A total 20 genera associated multiple significant indicators. For example, Ruminococcus2 sensu stricto Dorea positively correlated indicators bodyweight (including waistline body mass index) density lipoprotein, triglyceride cholesterol). In contrast, aforementioned negatively Butyricicoccus Alistipes, Parasutterella IV Generally, these hold potential predict obesity-related abnormalities, interventions based might be beneficial weight loss risk improvement.

Phascolarctobacterium can produce short-chain fatty acids, including acetate and propionate, be associated with the metabolic state mood of host. The present study investigated colonization characteristics faecium in healthy individuals <1-80 years old Southern China. A total 150 fresh fecal samples were collected, bacterial DNA was isolated from these for quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis. demonstrated a high rate abundant human gastrointestinal tract. varied between 43.33-93.33%, abundance ranged 3.22-5.76 log cells g-1 (<1 old) 3.06-9.33 (>1 year old). permillage bacteria 0.004-1.479. There presence faecium-like younger gradual increase number maintained at level increasing ages (between 1 60 old), but decrease elderly (>60 results that is abundantly colonized

Herbal medicines (HMs) are much appreciated for their significant contribution to human survival and reproduction by remedial prophylactic management of diseases. Defining the scientific basis HMs will substantiate value promote modernization. Ever-increasing evidence suggests that gut microbiota plays a crucial role in HM therapy complicated interplay with components. This includes such activities as: biotransforming chemicals into metabolites harbor different bioavailability bioactivity/toxicity from precursors; improving composition microbiota, consequently ameliorating its dysfunction as well associated pathological conditions; mediating interactions (synergistic antagonistic) between multiple HMs. More advanced experimental designs recommended future study, overall chemical characterization microbiota-metabolized HMs, direct microbial analysis HM-targeted precise research model development. The outcomes can further elucidate thereby opening new window defining guiding HM-based drug discovery.

Sub-therapeutic antibiotics are widely used as growth promoters in the poultry industry; however, resulting antibiotic resistance threatens public health. A plant-derived promoter, Macleaya cordata extract (MCE), with effective ingredients of benzylisoquinoline alkaloids, is a potential alternative to promoters. Altered intestinal microbiota play important roles promotion, but underlying mechanism remains unknown. We generated 1.64 terabases metagenomic data from 495 chicken digesta samples and constructed comprehensive gut microbial gene catalog (9.04 million genes), which also first an animal’s microbiome that covers all compartments. Then, we identified distinctive characteristics temporal changes foregut hindgut microbiota. Next, assessed impact MCE on chickens Chickens fed had improved performance, major were confined foregut, predominant role Lactobacillus being enhanced, amino acids, vitamins, secondary bile acids biosynthesis pathways upregulated, lacked accumulation antibiotic-resistance genes. In comparison, treatment chlortetracycline similarly enriched some nutrients microbiota, elicited increase antibiotic-producing bacteria The reference supplement animal metagenomes. Metagenomic analysis provides insights into growth-promoting MCE, underscored importance utilizing safe
