novel
transduction
molecule
reveal
Drosophila
Grs
via
distinct
molecular
mechanisms
depending
on

Gustatory
sensory
neurons
detect
caloric
and
harmful
compounds
in
potential
food
convey
this
information
to
the
brain
inform
feeding
decisions.

The
ionotropic
receptors
(IRs)
are
a
branch
of
the
glutamate
receptor
family
and
serve
as
important
mediators
sensory
transduction
in
invertebrates.
Recent
work
shows
that,
though
initially
studied
olfactory
receptors,
IRs
also
mediate
detection
taste,
temperature,
humidity.
Here,
we
summarize
recent
insights
into
IR
evolution
its
potential
ecological
significance
well
advances
our
understanding
how
contribute
to
diverse
modalities.
