The necessity of sustainable development in the chemical industry has continuously drawn attention to find safe, environmentally friendly and atom-economic processes, which is defined 12 principles green chemistry. Merging photoredox catalysis reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerisation, photoinduced electron/energy (PET)-RAFT process opened up a new way performing deactivation radical polymerisation for well-defined polymer synthesis using light as an external stimulus. While providing increased level control (spatiotemporal, wavelength, intensity control) over PET-RAFT many attractive attributes (abundant catalyst availability, recyclability, selectivity oxygen tolerance) be sustainable, intriguing precision manufacturing industry.

Photoinitiated cationic polymerizations are widely used in industrial processes; however, gaining photocontrol over chain growth would expand the utility of these methods and facilitate design novel complex architectures. We report herein a polymerization regulated by visible light. This proceeds under mild conditions: combination metal-free photocatalyst, chain-transfer agent, light irradiation enables synthesis various poly(vinyl ether)s with good control molecular weight dispersity as well excellent chain-end fidelity. Significantly, photoreversible cation formation this system efficient polymer

The ability to combine two polymerization mechanisms in a one-pot setup and switch the monomer selectivity via an external stimulus provides excellent opportunity control polymer sequence structure. We report strategy that enables incorporation be determined selection of wavelength light through selective activation either cationic or radical processes. This method synthesis varying polymeric structures under identical solution conditions but with simple modulation stimulus. Additionally, changes ratios photocatalysts afford complementary chemical over these reactions design elaborated structures. Our takes advantage unique regulation can accessed light.
