Efficient water vapor splitting opens a new strategy to develop scalable and corrosion-free solar-energy-harvesting systems. This study demonstrates highly efficient overall under feeding using Al-doped SrTiO3 (SrTiO3:Al)-based photocatalyst decorated homogeneously with nano-membrane TiOx or TaOx thin layers (<3 nm). Here, we show the hygroscopic nature of metal (hydr)oxide layer provides liquid reaction environment vapor, thus achieving an AQY 54 ± 4%, which is comparable reaction. coated, CoOOH/Rh loaded SrTiO3:Al works for over 100 h, high pressure (0.3 MPa), no problems simulated seawater as supply source. concept innovative high-pressure-tolerant photoreactor may have value large-scale applications. It allows uniform distribution reactant into reactor system without potential risk removing powders eluting some dissolved ions from reactor.

Abstract Photocatalytic water splitting converts sunlight directly into storable hydrogen, but commonly involves the use of pure and land for plant installation while generating unusable waste heat. Here we report a hybrid device consisting photocatalyst (PC) solar vapour generator (SVG) simultaneous overall purification from open sources. Specifically, an ultraviolet light-absorbing RhCrO x –Al:SrTiO 3 PC is deposited on top floating, visible infrared porous carbon SVG, which produces green fuel with solar-to-hydrogen efficiency 0.13 ± 0.03% 0.95 kg m −2 h −1 as feed collectable purified water. This integrated system maintains operational stability in seawater other aqueous streams over 154 due to isolation contaminants liquid feedstock. work provides new concept developing off-grid energy production/storage solution first step towards alleviating both supply challenges.

Abstract The electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and evolution (OER) are fundamental processes in a range of energy conversion devices such as fuel cells metal–air batteries. ORR OER both have significant activation barriers, which severely limit the overall performance that utilize ORR/OER. Meanwhile, is another very important involving has been widely investigated. occurs aqueous solutions via two pathways: direct 4-electron or 2-electron pathways from O 2 to water (H O) hydrogen peroxide ). Noble metal electrocatalysts often used catalyze ORR, despite fact noble certain intrinsic limitations, low storage. Thus, it urgent develop more active stable low-cost electrocatalysts, especially for severe environments (e.g., acidic media). Theoretically, an ideal electrocatalyst should provide adequate binding species. Transition metals not belonging platinum group metal-based oxides substance could give d orbital species binding. As result, transition regarded substitute typical precious electrocatalysts. However, development oxide catalysts reactions still faces challenges, e.g., catalytic activity, stability, cost, mechanism. We discuss principles underlying design catalysts, including influence crystal structure, electronic structure on their performance. also challenges associated with developing potential strategies overcome these challenges.
