In this work, a series of novel multistimulus-responsive lanthanide coordination polymers {[LnL(H2O)4]Cl3·3H2O}n (Ln = Dy, Tb, Eu) constructed using dicarboxylic acid viologen derivative L (L N,N'-4,4'-bipyridiniodipropionate) and LnCl3·6H2O were prepared. All materials showed positive responses to UV light, the photochromic phenomena accompanied by significant photoquenching photoluminescence could be observed through photoelectron transfer mechanism. Strikingly, Dy analogue displayed photomagnetic behavior, as well responded positively small molecules inorganic ammonia/organic amines. Furthermore, good photoresponsive ammonia/amine vapor-responsive properties Dy-based material further fulfilled in dual-function papers involving erasable inkless printing visual amine detection applications. This work aims advance development multifunctional incorporating derivates versatile ions enriches research field.

Owing to their switchable spin states and dynamic electronic character, organic-based radical species have been invoked in phenomena unique a variety of fields. When incorporated solid state materials, generation organic radicals proves challenging due aggregation. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising candidates for immobilization stabilization because the tunable spatial arrangement linkers metal nodes, which sequesters reactive species. Herein, flexible, redox-active tetracarboxylic acid linker bearing two imidazole units was chosen construct new Zr6-MOF, NU-910, with scu topology. By exploiting structural flexibility we successfully modulate dynamics between an isolated π-dimer MOF system. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that through solvent exchange from N,N-diethylformamide acetone, NU-910 undergoes contraction interlinker distances decreasing 8.32 Å 3.20 at 100 K. Organic on bridging generated via UV light irradiation. Direct observation temperature-induced switches magnetically silent after irradiation achieved variable-temperature single-crystal electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectroscopy density functional theory calculations further substantiated formation cation upon This work demonstrates potential using flexible MOFs as platform phase.

The encapsulation of various guest molecules into the pores metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to form hybrid materials has attracted significant attention due their unique spatial distribution and certain preferential geometry guests inside MOFs. This arrangement often results in exhibiting physical chemical properties intramolecular interactions with host. In this article, five viologen derivatives were introduced as a Zn-MOF different benzene ring lengths, resulting formation host-guest three-dimensional (3D) compounds exhibited guest-dependent emission wavelength, color, excellent photochromic behavior upon ultraviolet (UV) light radiation distinct electronic transfer π···π stacking between host framework. study provides strategy for designing color-tunable luminescent highly sensitive materials.

As an emerging class of hybrid complexes, donor-acceptor (D-A) heterostructures with advantages both photoactive organic and inorganic components have provided excellent platform for the fabrication multifunctional materials. In this context, we demonstrated three novel host-guest D-A heterostructures, {[Ln(BCEbpy)(H2O)4][CoIII(CN)6]·4H2O}n (1 (Eu), 2 (Dy), 3 (Sm)), based on anionic Co(CN)63- cationic coordination layers assembled from a viologen functionalized tecton Ln(NO)3. Due to introduction electron donor, CoIII(CN)63-, unique exhibits highly sensitive reversible photochromic transformation light-yellow brown upon UV-Vis irradiation. More interestingly, accompanied process, 1 simultaneously possesses photomodulated fluorescence behaviour. addition, shows high sensitivity selectivity towards Cr2O72- anions fairly small LOD ca. 9.6 × 10-6 M.
