A photoredox/nickel dual catalysis is presented for the construction of several kinds useful nitrogen-containing heterocycles. This protocol regioselective and features a broad substrate scope. It provides direct access to heterocycles by reacting alkyl chlorides with readily available activated unactivated alkenes. Moreover, this can be easily scalable gram-scale, it feasible use sunlight as light source. Mechanistic studies suggest that energy transfer pathway involved in catalytic process.

Abstract A practical and mild electrochemical dehydrogenative regioselective cyclization method has been established for the synthesis of 4‐pyrrolin‐2‐ones using 3‐aza‐1,5‐dienes 1,3‐dicarbonyl compounds as substrates. This protocol is catalyst‐free, metal‐free, does not require oxidizing agents. It exhibits wide substrate compatibility can be easily scaled up to gram scale.

Abstract While the emergence of electrophotochemistry provides opportunities, such a chemistry at this stage suffers from limited reaction types and high photocatalyst loadings. A self‐catalyzed electrophotosynthesis as well one with low loading is presented. These external‐oxidant‐free cyclizations are enabling applicable to range activated alkenes, affording diverse array thiocyanato heterocycles including 4‐pyrrolin‐2‐ones, isoquinoline‐1,3‐diones, indolo[2,1‐ ]isoquinolin‐6(5 H )‐ones, benzoimidazo[2,1‐ )‐ones indolin‐2‐ones, protocols amenable late‐stage diversification complex molecular architectures gram‐scale syntheses. Sunlight could serve light source, be conducted in an all‐solar‐driven mode using commercially available photovoltaic panel produce electricity.

An electrochemical or photoelectrochemical regioselective polyfluoroalkylation/cyclization cascade of 3-aza-1,5-dienes with sodium fluoroalkanesulfinates is presented. This protocol proceeds a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance under mild, oxidant-free, transition-metal-free, electrolyte-free conditions to provide 3-polyfluoroalkylated 4-pyrrolin-2-ones in one step from readily available N-vinylacrylamides, it scalable the Gram scale.

Three hybrid electrochemical protocols, which involve the energy transfer, direct photolysis and N-hydroxyphthalimide catalyst, respectively, are presented for selenylation/cyclization of fragile substrates 3-aza-1,5-dienes with diorganyl diselenides to afford 3-selenomethyl-4-pyrrolin-2-ones. The chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed asymmetric intermolecular formal [3+2] cycloaddition of azoalkenes with azlactones has been established.
