Abstract
We
report
the
synthesis
and
characterization
of
a
[2]catenane
consisting
one
fluorescent
ring
incorporating
9,10-bis(phenylethynyl)anthracene
other
containing
2
naphthalene
diimides
as
quenchers.
The
catenane
was
constructed
via
modified
Huisgen
1,3-dipolar
cycloaddition
between
terminal
alkyne
azide
groups,
introduced
into
precursors
quencher
in
presence
ring.
In
chloroform,
absorption
spectra
showed
broad
band
500
700
nm,
attributed
to
charge-transfer
interactions
fluorophore
Titration
experiments
using
linear
model
compounds
suggested
that
is
sandwiched
This
configuration
led
substantial
shifts
¹H
NMR
signals
fluorophore,
compared
free
before
formation.
While
exhibited
high
fluorescence
quantum
yield
(Φ
=
0.91),
this
completely
quenched
upon
formation
<
0.01).

Stemming
from
early
seminal
notions
of
molecular
recognition
and
encapsulation,
three-dimensional,
cavity-containing
capsular
compounds
assemblies
have
attracted
intense
interest
due
to
the
ability

chemical

spaces

blocks,
an

wide-range

Furthermore,
synthetic
tunability

environments
gives
chemists
opportunity
engineer
systems
for
uses
in
sensing,
sequestration,
catalysis
transport
molecules,
just
name
few.
In
this
tutorial
review,
overview
is
provided
into
design
principles,
synthesis,
characterisation,
structural
facets
coordination
cages,
porous
organic
supramolecular
capsules,
foldamers
mechanically
interlocked
molecules.
Using
recent
examples,
advantages
limitations
each
system
are
explored,
highlighting
their
application
various
tasks
functions.

Although
catenated
cages
have
been
widely
constructed
due
to
their
unique
and
elegant
topological
structures,
cyclic
catenanes
formed
by
the
connection
of
multiple
catenane
units
rarely
reported.
Herein,
based
on
orthogonal
metal-coordination-driven
self-assembly,
we
prepare
a
series
heterometallic
[2]catenanes
bis[2]catenanes,
whose
structures
are
clearly
evidenced
single-crystal
X-ray
analysis.
Owing
positively
charged
nature,
as
well
potential
synergistic
effect
Cu(I)
Pt(II)
metal
ions,
bis[2]catenanes
display
broad-spectrum
antibacterial
activity.
This
work
not
only
provides
an
efficient
strategy
for
construction
but
also
explores
applications
superior
agents,
which
will
promote
advanced
supramolecular
biomedical
applications.

Template-directed
synthesis
has
become
a
powerful
methodology
to
access
complex
molecules.
Noncovalent
templating
been
widely
used
in
the
last
few
decades,
but
less
attention
paid
covalent
template-directed
synthesis,
despite
fact
that
this
was
for
first
reported
of
catenane.
This
review
highlights
evolution
over
60
years,
thereby
providing
toolbox
design
efficient
processes.
Covalent
represents
useful
synthetic
tool
accessing
molecules,
and
examples
described
here
include
macrocycles,
mechanically
interlocked
linear
oligomers,
polydisperse
polymers,
cross-linked
polymer
networks.
Abstract
Rotaxanes
and
catenanes
have
proven
to
be
key
structures
in
the
development
of
artificial
molecular
machines
with
a
variety
applications.
Among
them,
study
modulation
optical
properties,
mainly
light
emission,
been
widely
explored.
The
growing
interest
chiral
mechanically
interlocked
molecules
has
enabled
this
research
extended
chiroptical
particular
circularly
polarized
luminescence.
In
review,
we
discuss
progress
on
topic,
from
seminal
examples
number
reported
very
recent
years.
Both
rotaxanes
fixed
or
static
CPL
response
are
reviewed,
but
also
designs
that
exploit
switching
mechanisms
by
these
architectures
modulate
switch
their
both
solution
and/or
aggregate
solid
state.
The
synthesis
of
rotaxanes
featuring
two
dipyrromethane
stoppers,
which
differ
in
thread
length
and
rigidity,
is
presented.

Abstract
Synthesizing
molecules
with
significant
topological
features,
such
as
catenanes,
tailored
specific
groups
to
confer
desired
functionality,
is
essential
for
investigating
various
properties
arising
from
the
entanglement
due
mechanical
bonds.
This
investigation
can
pave
way
uncovering
novel
functional
materials
employing
mechanically
interlocked
(MIMs).
In
this
direction,
we
have
synthesized
a
π‐donor
(D)
and
π‐acceptor
(A)
functionalized
[2]catenane
using
non‐labile
Co(III)
metal
ion
template
pyridine‐diamide
templating
center
utilizing
click
reaction
ring‐closing.
The
donor
group
fluorene
derivative,
acceptor
benzophenazine
commonly
employed
in
synthesizing
conjugated
polymers
optoelectronic
devices.
Synthetically,
was
introduced
into
macrocycle
pyridine
diamide
unit.
It
then
threaded
ligand
having
alkyne
terminals
obtain
[2]pseudorotaxane
cobalt
template.
Ring‐closing
performed

molecule
chromophore.

after
demetalation.
All
starting

been
characterized
by

A
compact
chemically
driven
[2]catenane
rotary
motor
was
designed
for
precise
360°
unidirectional
rotation
utilizing
a
molecular
pumping
system.
It
operates
in
two
phases:
induces
180°

discharging
resets
