Replacing
the
oxygen
evolution
reaction
(OER)
in
photoelectrocatalytic
(PEC)
water
splitting
with
glycerol
oxidation
(GOR)
not
only
enhances
hydrogen
production
but
also
generates
high-value
byproducts.
In
this
study,
we
developed
a
ternary
photoanode,
Co-LDH/Bi2O3/TiO2,
by
loading
particulate
Bi2O3
and
linear
Co-LDH
onto
TiO2
nanorod
for
conversion
production.
The
characterization
results
confirm
formation
of
coupled
interfaces
between
TiO2,
which
improves
visible
light
utilization
promotes
type
II
heterojunctions,
resulting
significant
suppression
electron–hole
recombination
an
improvement
PEC
performance.
Fourier
transform
infrared
(FT-IR)
spectroscopy
revealed
that
Co-LDH/Bi2O3/TiO2
photoanode
exhibited
stronger
adsorption
intermediate
hydroxyl
group
more
effective
desorption
DHA
compared
to
binary
photoanodes
(Co-LDH/TiO2
Bi2O3/TiO2),
high-selectivity
DHA.
Mechanistic
studies
density
function
theory
calculations
have
shown
Co-LDH/TiO2
oxidizes
mainly
through
hole
oxidation,
Bi2O3/TiO2
radical
(•OH)
oxidation.
Therefore,
constructed
(Co-LDH/Bi2O3/TiO2)
dual
heterojunction
converts
pathways
•OH
This
work
demonstrates
promising
strategy
developing
high-performance
systems
production,
leveraging
synergistic
effects
multisemiconductor
heterojunctions
multiple
pathways,
offering
potential
practical
applications.
Abstract
Conversion
of
glycerol
to
added‐value
products
is
desirable
due
its
surplus
during
biodiesel
synthesis.
TiO
2
has
been
the
most
explored
catalyst.
We
performed
a
systematic
study
adsorption
on
anatase
(101),
(001),
and
rutile
(110)
at
Density
Functional
Theory
level.
found
several
modes
these
surfaces,
with
(101)
being
less
reactive
one,
leading
energies
between
−0.8
−0.4
eV,
all
adsorptions
molecular
in
nature.
On
contrary,
(001)
surface,
both
dissociative
modes,
ranging
from
−4
−1
eV
undergoing
severe
surface
reconstructions
some
cases.
Rutile
also
shows
adsorptions,
but
it
than
(001).
Surfaces
oxygen
vacancies
affects
adsorbed
states
energies.
The
electronic
structure
analysis
reveals
that
mainly
band
gap
material
not
individual
contributions
valence
conduction
band.
Bader
charge
strong
are
associated
large
transfer
while
weak
involve
low
transfer.
