Climate change anxiety, that is worry and fear in relation to the awareness of impacts climate change, widely observed around world. Some evidence suggests while anxiety can, at times, be adaptive, a growing body research has reported also related range negative mental health outcomes psychological distress. Markers clinically meaningful – depression, stress symptoms—were used classify cases. Receiver Operating Characteristics analyses were performed predictive indicators (mild, moderate, severe, extremely severe thresholds symptoms) detecting ascertain optimal scores. Area Under Curve was acceptable moderate across all analyses. Across symptom severity markers distress, based consideration balancing sensitivity specificity, results consistently suggested cut-score 21 indicative mild-moderate with score 23 indicating severe-extremely proposed cut-offs can feasibly Use these inform as well guide screening, assessment, practice. Abstract Since 1985, conservation science has been unquestioningly described as a crisis discipline. This narrative entails prioritizing immediate responses to threats despite limited knowledge. Although interventions have grown significantly, biodiversity loss continued unabated, and those working or living alongside declining ecosystems report increasing levels of emotional distress. Ecological grief is particularly on the rise claimed by some necessary process fuel urgent lifesaving changes. However, I argue that both narratives—the emerging ecological established approach—can synergically reinforce loop resignation, where decline either passively accepted inadvertently perpetuated. Such resignation ultimately leads harmful adaptation ongoing degradation. Finally, propose shift toward transformative narrative, moving away from primary focus thinking embrace proactive futures. Reframing underlying narratives essential, because they can influence broader agenda.

The adverse impacts of climate change on mental health is a burgeoning area, although findings are inconsistent. emerging concept eco-anxiety represents distress in relation to and may be related health. aim this study was explore the relationship between with validated outcomes, specifically psychological symptoms major affective disorders. Systematic review. EBSCO, ProQuest, Web Science databases were searched February 2024 for studies adult samples quantifying (exposure, i.e. fear, worry or anxiety change) disorders (outcomes), as assessed by measures. Full text review 83 performed, k = 35 included (N 45 667, 61% female, Mage 31.2 years). Consistently, showed small large positive correlations outcomes distress, depression symptoms, stress symptoms. However, results regarding post-traumatic disorder pathological mixed. Stronger associations observed where operationalised 'anxiety' rather than 'worry'. Findings underscore that burden. Greater consideration assessment treatment needed clinical practice further policy development warranted at intersection address challenges posed change.
