Abstract Using Q methodology, this study examines the challenges in English-medium instruction (EMI) and corresponding coping strategies among engineering students. The participants included 47 current former undergraduate students at a Thai university. findings revealed three factors, each representing distinct combination of strategies. first factor represents who encountered unfamiliar characteristics instructors, yet they adopted an emotion-focused approach, treating these unfamiliarities as opportunities. second pertains to complexity writing tasks due limited vocabulary grammar deficiencies, which were addressed by using various learning resources enhance their skills. third highlights opportunities for spoken English communication within programs, remained positive, acknowledging overall benefits participation. offer valuable insights development EMI programs that cater unique needs

Positive Influence of Cooperative Learning and Emotion Regulation on EFL Learners’ Foreign Language Enjoyment DOI Open Access

This study approaches foreign language enjoyment (FLE) through the lenses of positive psychology, and in particular, examines how is affected by emotion regulation (ER) two factors concerning cooperative learning (CL) a classroom climate, namely goal interdependence (PGI) peer personal support (PPS). To achieve this goal, 115 Chinese university freshmen (male 47; female 68) aged between 18 to 20 (M = 18.69; SD 0.65) were invited complete questionnaire. Regression analyses revealed clear three-factor structure determining FLE students English as (EFL), which are ER, PGI that highlights cooperation, PPS emphasizes interpersonal relationship peers. It also showed significantly influence each other while positively jointly shaping FLE. The findings suggest EFL with higher ER abilities more likely obtain process during CL play an effective role deciding students' not only confirms importance may lead high-level enjoyment, but provides practical implications for realization enjoyable second acquisition (SLA) experience.

This study used Q methodology to explore the subjective perspectives of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners regarding sources willingness communicate (WTC). A sample 40 undergraduate students enrolled in an language teaching program at Turkish university was obtained. Based on their shared viewpoints, participants were clustered into three groups: self-assured communicators, motivated and nervous communicators. Self-assured communicators exhibited high levels self-confidence, while displayed strong unwavering motivation improve speaking skills. Nervous other hand, showed noticeable signs anxiety, impeding WTC. provides evidence that amalgamation internal external factors works synergy shape EFL learners' WTC classroom. Recognising this interplay can lead development targeted interventions instructional approaches, improving L2 communicative behaviours. Abstract This study employs Q methodology to investigate Chinese EFL students' foreign language enjoyment in GenAI-assisted English learning environments. Through Q-sorting and follow-up written responses from university students, this research identified three distinct patterns: (1) Instrumental Support Orientation, characterized by derived GenAI's immediate assistance error correction features, but showing limited engagement with deeper processes; (2) Independent Learning Achievement, reflecting high satisfaction autonomous goal attainment efficiency while demonstrating resistance peer interaction collaborative learning; (3) Learning Feature Exploration, emphasizing through experimenting various GenAI functionalities expressing significant skepticism about outcomes anxiety reduction. These findings extend our understanding of FLE technology-enhanced revealing how learners experience different pathways interaction.

Boredom, enjoyment, and emotion regulation among Chinese students majoring in dual foreign languages: a Q method study DOI

Research on emotion and language learning has gained broad attention; however, there is insufficient research students' negative emotions in LOTE-as-L3 classrooms, especially within multilingual contexts. To fill this gap, study examines the Chinese students majoring dual foreign languages exhibit English L3 courses, such as boredom, enjoyment, regulation. The Q method, which integrates qualitative quantitative approaches, was used to analyze a sample of 27 study. Retrospective interviews were conducted after data analysis gain more profound understanding. Multiple inverted factor analyses interview results identified three major attitudes among these students: balanced activity-induced low regulation ability. reveals that varying teaching methods, materials, activities result differing levels boredom other emotions.
