Purpose Conflicts between herders and farmers in Nigeria the last five years have been destructive to corporate existence of Nigerian society State, especially Northcentral, Northwestern Southern Nigeria. This paper explores the multifaceted challenges post-colonial African states face in addressing underdevelopment and ethnoreligious intolerance, resulting an unstable socio-economic political environment. It argues that inability of post-independent to foster good governance, accountability, inclusive politics has given rise violent non-state actors (VNSAs) seeking challenge state's legitimacy due its failure provide essential services.
