Scientific and expert knowledge on migration is often disregarded in policy making plays only a minor role public debates - despite the massive growth institutionalization of research recent years. This article interrogates limited impact research(ers) by examining practices both academia. We first look “outwards” at making. Revisiting integrating hitherto separate scholarship use production, we identify main mechanisms that characterize actors, such as individual institutional self-preservation, issue politicization, or unequal power dynamics. then mobilize these insights to “inwards” our own studies, showing similar shape how scholars produce knowledge. From smuggled migrants to ‘alleged smugglers’: Empirical evidence and policy perspectives on the criminalization of people on the move in Italy DOI

Abstract Since 2014, numerous people on the move have been accused of migrant smuggling in Italian courts for steering makeshift vessels or assisting navigation across Mediterranean Sea. This is case regardless fact that such behaviour was result coercion threats. In this contribution, drawing upon extensive empirical research and following a socio‐legal paradigm, I first explore criminalization relation to charges years so‐called 2014–2015 refugee crisis discuss impact their rights. Second, tackle issue from policy perspective, considering three potential EU/national reforms ways which they could successfully address an existing problem. Abstract Crises, shocks, and perturbations are frequently considered turning points in public policy literature. The Advocacy Coalition Framework has become one of the most employed process frameworks, focusing on subsystems, belief systems shocks as drivers change.
