Purpose Educators are raising ethical concerns over the use of ChatGPT in schools. They have implemented various strategies to minimize its use, particularly by labeling ChatGPT-produced work as plagiarism. However, among students is still on rise. Our study aims find behavioral motivation behind students’ increased ChatGPT. Design/methodology/approach We PLS-SEM analyze survey responses from 250 participants a liberal arts university USA. Findings Students’ self-congruency influences their attitude and intention toward Students because they higher similarity between personality persona depicted So, educators must consider creative assignments that cannot be solved using any other deterrence will not Originality/value To best our knowledge, this first research incorporate integrate antecedents education sector.

This narrative review synthesizes and analyzes empirical studies on the adoption acceptance of ChatGPT in higher education, addressing need to understand key factors influencing its use by students educators. Anchored theoretical frameworks such as Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Unified Theory Use (UTAUT), Diffusion Innovation (DoI) Theory, Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE) model, Planned Behavior, this highlights central constructs shaping behavior. The confirmed include hedonic motivation, usability, perceived benefits, system responsiveness, relative advantage, whereas effects social influence, facilitating conditions, privacy, security vary. Conversely, technology readiness extrinsic motivation remain unconfirmed consistent predictors. study employs a qualitative synthesis 40 peer-reviewed studies, applying thematic analysis uncover patterns driving adoption. findings reveal that, while traditional models offer valuable insights, deeper exploration contextual psychological is necessary. study’s implications inform future research directions institutional strategies for integrating AI support educational innovation.

Large language models (LLMs), represented by ChatGPT, are one of the most significant technological breakthroughs in generative AI and have begun to be applied EFL writing instruction. The advent LLMs presents both opportunities challenges for learners, underscoring importance empirical evidence on their motivation acceptance using learning English academic writing. This study recruited 238 participants who had completed semester training business-related Participants answered question items based L2 Motivational Self System Unified Theory Acceptance Use Technology (UTAUT). Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed examine relationships between variables motivation, region, previous experience, UTAUT model. Additionally, moderating effect relationship four determinants, behavioral intention, use behavior tested. results show that performance expectancy social influence significantly affect learners’ intention LLMs. Moreover, proved a key factor shaping actual behavior, highlighting its crucial role adoption technology
