Introduction The adoption of biogenic building materials is an important step towards decarbonizing the construction industry. However, a number constraints limit their wider in Objective To determine and analyse financial (FC) to materials; examine how they relate one another; provide strategy for overcoming promote utilization construction. Methods data study was obtained using methodical review related literature expert-based survey while results were analysed decision-making trial evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique. Results findings indicate that most critical with strongest level cause on other FC are high initial costs (FC3), design & production cost (FC4), lack standardization certification (FC7), difficulty upscaling (FC1), limited access capital financing options (FC8). Conclusion This contributes advancing knowledge sustainable practices by determining understanding specific impede widespread within By addressing these constraints, promotes sector, contributing environmental conservation resource efficiency.

As the construction industry moves toward sustainable building practices, incorporating wood-based materials into envelope systems has become a priority. This paper investigates environmental impact of three custom bio-composite Façade System Modules (FSMs) through an Embodied Carbon Assessment (ECA), focused on Global Warming Potential indicator life cycle stages from cradle to practical completion (A1–A5). The evaluated FSMs were developed within Basajaun H2020 project (G.A. 862942), by substituting and combining conventional with other products form hybrids bio-based polymers wood. A benchmark ECA was conducted, simulating alternative devised common practice solutions for curtain wall façade facilitate comprehensive comparison. inventory encompassed detailed technical information, fostering utilization primary data accuracy. study particularly highlights considerations over technological modules that incorporate increased use components novel material: frame profiles, insulation equipment, seal system. Despite challenges due FSMs’ weight, findings reveal replacing currently used bio-composites reduced embodied emissions, aluminum profiles. insights presented here offer indicators circular, environmentally conscious, bio-composed envelopes, emphasizing need continued analysis refinements as consequence increasing accuracy available supply chain concerning end-of-life scenarios.

The emergence of plant-based building materials is supported by several factors, such as shortages, adverse effects, and quality deficits conventional resources, strict legislative frameworks targeting the realization Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), growing environmental awareness on individual stakeholder levels. To support these findings, this paper aimed to assess relevance green in construction industry highlight most widespread thoroughly studied compounds literature, using bibliometric analysis. By evaluating 977 publications from 453 sources, results show that total number relevant papers has increased yearly, while belonged engineering discipline. Most articles were dedicated one or more SDGs, which was confirmed comprehensive representation elaboration “green”, “environmental”, “sustainability” aspects regarding topics “materials” “building” frequent terms. Additionally, a wide range are evaluated literature; primarily used improve materials’ mechanical properties, many also tested substitutes for ones. In conclusion, transition aided scientific community proposing supplements alternatives well-known practices; however, further in-depth studies needed verify applicability novelties gain uniform acceptance foster expansion sustainability initiatives sector.

The bioeconomy is generally understood as an economy in which sustainably-sourced renewable bio-based resources are used for the production of food, energy and other products services. Expectations high its potential to support transition away from a fossil fuel-based help address complex issues such climate change biodiversity depletion. However, given cross-sectoral nature key focus on innovation, tensions can emerge between goals need regulation activities. In particular, there recognition (a) sustainability resource efficiency, (b) manage competing interests (c) provide coherence innovation support. To identify how may be acting barrier / or driver Ireland, interviews were conducted with range stakeholder organisations. Analysis revealed four barriers, relating financial tools feedin tariffs, more flexible approaches regulating use waste materials, closing gap activity addressing planning issues. two drivers identified highlight positive role supporting enabling development, especially terms using innovative approaches. Associated challenges include genuine public participation provision policy-makers design implementation effective regulatory framework.
