Music is a ubiquitous form of entertainment, engaging millions and providing emotional release for both musicians listeners. Songs referencing suicide - generally taboo subject are common in U.S. culture, appearing every genre music from country to hip hop, punk rock blues. Suicide songs prompt concern among the lay public (e.g., lawmakers, parents) also researchers, whose work has documented statistically significant relationships between musical preference suicidality. Still, could carry positive effects listeners through behavioral modeling by illustrating alternatives suicide. The outcomes likely dependent, part, on lyrical content. ABSTRACTMental health information on social media is more often communicated by regular users as opposed to healthcare professionals, and a subset of these users, influencers, are employed marketing sources for therapy companies. According cognitive theory, an influencer's story about their positive experiences with should encourage followers also seek therapy, stronger involvement the influencer enhance effects. Although research has found that previous experience modeled behaviors may mute vicarious learning effects, nuanced stigmatized context like mental treatment, it important parse out both quantity valence in understanding how shapes audience responses content media. The current study tests moderated mediation model help explain impact viewer (quantity valence) (similarity parasocial relationship) theory-related outcomes. Abstract This chapter synthesizes research on the influence of parasocial experiences in audience health-related perceptions and behavior. Exposure to health messages may be part routine media use or result from active seeking information guidance. Drawing domains entertainment–education, figure events, strategic messaging, this review discusses theoretical mechanisms outcomes, including message salience issue involvement, diffusion, modeling, overcoming resistance, social norms, source credibility. After reviewing specific outcomes (including physical disease awareness, prevention, treatment; mental health/mental illness; everyday behaviors; connection well-being; public outcomes), concludes with recommendations for future research.
