Sexual reproduction is a fundamental process essential for species persistence, evolution, and diversity. However, unprecedented oceanographic shifts due to climate change can impact physiological processes, with important implications sexual reproduction. Identifying bottlenecks vulnerable stages in reproductive cycles will enable better prediction of the organism, population, community, global-level consequences ocean change. This article reviews how acidification impacts processes marine invertebrates highlights current research gaps. We focus on five economically ecologically taxonomic groups: cnidarians, crustaceans, echinoderms, molluscs ascidians. discuss spatial temporal variability experimental designs, identify trends performance acidified conditions context early traits (gametogenesis, fertilization, resource allocation), provide quantitative meta-analysis published literature assess effects low pH fertilization rates across taxa. Oocyte activation, a fundamental event during mammalian fertilisation, is initiated by concerted intracellular patterns of calcium (Ca2+) release, termed Ca2+ oscillations, predominantly driven testis-specific phospholipase C zeta (PLCζ). exerts pivotal role in not just regulating oocyte activation and driving but also influencing the quality embryogenesis. In humans, failure or defects related mechanisms, have been reported to result infertility. Furthermore, mutations PLCζ gene abnormalities sperm protein RNA, strongly associated with forms male infertility where deficient. Concurrently, specific profiles human linked parameters semen quality, suggesting potential for as powerful target both therapeutics diagnostics fertility. However, further given strong played targets down- up-stream this process may present significantly similar level promise. Herein, we systematically summarise recent advancements controversies field update expanding clinical associations between Ca2+-release, PLCζ, We discuss how such potentially underlie defective embryogenesis recurrent implantation following fertility treatments, alongside diagnostic therapeutic avenues presented diagnosis treatment

Al Hoceima Bay, located on Morocco's Mediterranean coast, is a very important ecosystem characterized mainly by seaside tourism and sea fishing. Continental inputs climate change generally contribute to modifying the environmental parameters that characterize coastal waters. This work aims seasonal spatial variation of physico-chemical surface waters Al-Hoceima Bay during an annual cycle in context global change. Four sampling campaigns (autumn, winter, spring, summer) were conducted period 2022-2023 network 15 stations covering all areas bay. Surface water samples collected analyzed multi-parameter instrument. The results show significant (p < 0.01) for analyzed. Temperatures ranged from 15.59°C 21.8°C, pH 7.8 8.4. Dissolved oxygen 3.7 mg/l 7 mg/l. Salinity 35.7 g/l 39.5 g/l. Conductivity 54 ms/cm 56.5 ms/cm.

Salinity is an important abiotic factor in aquaculture because of its significance the multiple physiological progress marine fish. The liver main organ involved energy metabolism, supplying to other body tissues and organs. Greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili) characterized by fast growth aquatic export product China. In this study, greater was cultured varying salinity levels, i.e., from 5 40 ppt, for 72 h. Notably, all fish under ppt died within 24 h limited tolerance ability. In sea urchin, the immediate contact of acrosome-reacted sperm with egg surface triggers a series structural and ionic changes in cortex. Within one minute after fuses plasma membrane, cell membrane potential concurrent increases intracellular Ca2+ levels. The consequent exocytosis cortical granules induces separation vitelline layer from membrane. While these are presumed to prevent fusion additional sperm, subsequent late phase (between 1 4 min fertilization) is characterized by reorganization cortex microvilli (elongation) metabolic shift activate de novo protein DNA syntheses. latter biosynthetic events crucial for embryonic development. Previous studies suggested that early fertilization was not prerequisite second since increase pH induced exposure unfertilized urchin eggs ammonia seawater could start activation absence granule exocytosis. present study, we have demonstrated incubation considerable elongations (containing actin filaments) as consequence increase, which increased egg’s receptivity made polyspermic at despite elevation envelope (FE). These also displayed compromised signals fertilization, amplitude flash significantly reduced elevated level declined much faster. results highlighted importance internal regulating signaling microvillar cytoskeleton during process.

Salinity plays a major role in several physiological processes sea urchins, including reproduction and growth, ultimately affecting survival. Optimal salinity ranges vary considerably between species, as consequence of ecological adaptations. However, related research the context aquaculture is quite scarce, particularly for stenohaline urchin Paracentrotus lividus (Lamarck, 1816), target species diversification Europe. It thus important to better understand response this hyposalinity conditions over an extended rearing period. Four treatments (20, 25, 30 35 psu) were evaluated, 120 days, terms survival, feed intake, gametogenic development gonadal colour P. lividus. While 100% survival was obtained all treatments, significantly affected other parameters. Sea urchins reared at 20 psu presented lower linear specific growth rates, gonadosomatic index, well higher conversion ratio. mostly mature, led slower progression salinities, psu. Gonad colouration only males, individuals less brighter, but more reddish yellowish gonads. The results clearly demonstrate that despite absence mortality, salinities 25 promote negative effect on somatic yield
