Dietary nutrients provide fuel for the growth and development of insects as well chemicals their tissue construction. Apis mellifera L., an important pollinator, collects nectar pollens from different plants to get nutritional needs. Honey bees use protein carbohydrates energy sources. Pollens predominantly contain proline glutamic acid (non-essential amino acids). This is first study evaluate role proline, sorbitol on bee broods. The composition diet can optimize in vitro rearing process. Therefore, we elaborated possible impact these acids sugar alcohol aimed achieve this objective by honey larvae under concentrations acid, (1, 4 8%), which were supplemented into standard larval diet. supplementation helped quick pupae bees, whereas developmental time only decreased case acid. duration total brood was shortest (20.1 20.6 days) Pro8 Glu4, respectively. Proline increased survival (93.8%), did not increase any stage. Pupal adult weights also with acid-supplemented diets. Sorbitol change period but (93.7%) at lowest concentration (Sor1). small be used brood. However, a higher (Sor8) reduced body weight both adults. predicted that could one factors selectivity pollen during foraging bees.

Abstract Drosophila suzukii Matsumura, spotted-wing drosophila, is a major pest of small fruits and cherries often managed with conventional insecticides. Our previous work found that erythritol, nonnutritive polyol, has insecticidal properties to D. suzukii. Two formulations erythritol (1.5M), 0.5M sucrose or 0.1M sucralose, are most effective at killing In this study, we investigated the nontarget effects these on honey bee Apis mellifera Linnaeus larvae, pupal parasitoid suzukii, Pachycrepoideus vindemiae Rondani, western yellow jacket, Vespula pensylvanica Saussure. We directly exposed larvae by adding high dose (2 µl) larval cells no significant mortality from either formulation compared water control. may encounter in field settings when host plants sprayed. The erythritol+sucralose was more detrimental than erythritol+sucrose P. vindemiae, however, effect greatly reduced within 21-d period floral source present. Since jackets nuisance were attracted recent trials, tested adult V. survival continuous consumption laboratory. detectable detriment formulation, Overall, both caused minimal parasitoids, jackets.

Abstract Around the world, mosquitoes continue to transmit disease-causing pathogens while also developing resistance insecticides. We previously discovered that a generally regarded as safe (GRAS) compound, 1,2-propanediol, reduces adult mosquito survivorship when ingested. In this study, we assess and compare five more chemically related compounds for lethality eight GRAS sugar substitutes determine toxic effects. conducted series of feeding assays if ingesting influenced mean in locally collected lab-reared populations Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus, 1762) albopictus (Skuse, 1894) mosquitoes. Our results indicate 1,3-propanediol, 1,5-pentanediol, 1,6-hexanediol, 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, DL-dithiothreitol, acesulfame potassium, allulose, erythritol, sodium saccharin, stevia, sucralose significantly reduced one or both species. Short-term trials with most revealed they could substantially affect after 24 hours. found many yielded different responses two species male expired greater extent than female These findings several may be highly effective local vector population disease control through functioning components attractive bait systems (ATSBs)

Mosquito-borne diseases have caused more than one million deaths each year. There is an urgent need to develop effective way reduce mosquito-host interaction mitigate disease transmission. Sugar diets long been linked abnormal physiology in animals, making them potential candidates for mosquito control. Here, we show the impact of sugar on humidity preference and survival
