This paper studies the impact of US-China tariff war on China, using high-frequency night lights data and grid-level measures exposure. Exploiting within-grid variation over time controlling extensively for grid-specific contemporaneous trends, we find that each one-percentage-point increase in exposure to US tariffs was associated with a 0.59% reduction night-time luminosity. highly skewed across locations: Grids negligible direct accounted 70% China's population. But tail 2.5% population highest saw an implied 2.52% (1.62%) decrease income per capita (manufacturing employment) relative unaffected grids. These effects were moreover concentrated locations high commuting openness. By contrast, do not significant from retaliatory tariffs, offer evidence several channels through which imported inputs mitigated.

We find that rise in EPU due external shocks weakens firms' recovery. By reducing costs improving margins, development economy mitigates this weakening effect, but is pronounced more productive firms.
