The rates of human papillomavirus-positive oropharyngeal cancer (HPV-OPC) are rising worldwide and in the United States, particularly rural regions including Appalachia. Rural areas face unique health challenges resulting higher incidence mortality rates, this includes HPV-OPC. recent advent highly sensitive liquid biopsies for non-invasive detection HPV-OPC recurrence (circulating tumor HPV DNA, ctDNA) has been swiftly adopted as part surveillance paradigms. Though knowledge gaps persist regarding its use clinical trials ongoing, ease collection cost-effectiveness ctDNA make it more accessible survivors than usual methods frequent exams imaging. Herein, we discuss how implementing assays States provide one poignant example can improve care equity.

Background Over the past three decades, significant disparities in global burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) have been observed, particularly CVD attributed to secondhand smoke. However, a comprehensive understanding trends and their interaction with smoke remains inadequate. Methods Using Global Burden Disease data (1990–2019), an age-period-cohort analysis examined temporal mortality among smoke-exposed populations, considering age, period cohort interactions. Results 30-year period, number deaths increased substantially, from 432.6 thousand 1990 (95% UI: 357.4–508.3) 598.5 2019 489.7–713.5), representing 38.4% increase 26.8%–49.5%). In 2019, accounted for 45.9% all attributable both sexes globally. Among these deaths, ischaemic heart predominated, accounting 66.4% cases, compared stroke. The distribution by sex revealed slightly lower percentage males (46.5%) than females (53.5%). Age-period-cohort models show overall decline due over 30 years, regional, subtype variations. Notably, higher Sociodemographic Index (SDI) correlated greater reduction mortality, exhibiting 39.1% decrease high SDI areas 35.6%–42.3%), stark contrast minimal change observed low (0.1%, 95% −52.4%–62.2%). Conclusions This study highlights importance as modifiable risk. Further research is needed understand across development levels, subtypes.

Head and neck cancer (HNC) exerts a significant healthcare burden worldwide. Insufficient data impedes comprehensive understanding of its global impact. Through analysis the 2019 Global Burden Disease (GBD) database, our secondary investigation unveiled surging incidence HNC, yet decline in associated mortality disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) owing to enhanced prognosis. Particularly noteworthy is higher escalation among females compared males. Effective resource allocation, meticulous control risk factors, tailored interventions are imperative curtail rates young individuals afflicted with HNC underprivileged regions, as well elderly grappling thyroid cancer.

Abstract Introduction This study provides an epidemiological description of cancer in the lip, oral cavity, and oropharynx South South‐East Asia region. Methods The number new cases deaths was extracted from GLOBOCAN 2020 CI5 series. We present age‐standardized incidence mortality rates per 100,000 inhabitants. To assess temporal trends, we estimated annual percent change. Results (ASR) for lip cavity were highest Taiwan (30.2), Sri Lanka (16.5), India (14.8), Pakistan (13.2) among males. For oropharyngeal cancer, found (4.7), Bangladesh, Lanka, (4.3, 2.9, 2.6, respectively). Incidence consistently higher males compared to females. Overall, trends either stable or decreasing most populations evaluated. In India, increase contrasted with a decline females over period. Conclusion are globally. Our results suggest optimistic trend reduction region, despite Indian

PURPOSE The incidence and survival rates of head neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) nasopharyngeal (NPC) vary globally, influenced by factors such as ethnicity, lifestyle, health care systems. METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients with HNSCC treated between 2008 2020 in four major Thai academic cancer centers, using a multidisciplinary multicenter database. study focused the evolution patient characteristics, changes, treatment landscape alterations over time. RESULTS Among 6,319 patients, most common primary sites were nasopharynx (33%), oral cavity (23%), oropharynx (17%), larynx (15%), hypopharynx (8%). An increase human papillomavirus–related oropharyngeal noted, from 13% to 42% 2019-2020. majority presented locally advanced (LA) stages (IVa/b: 50%, III: 26%). Chemoradiotherapy (54%) surgery (24%) main treatments, cisplatin (79%) being commonly used chemoradiation. Overall (OS) improved annually across all subsites, correlating an intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) use, 25% 90% median follow-up duration 4.59 years, minimum 2.75 years. Patients IMRT had significantly longer OS compared those non-IMRT techniques, both NPC non-NPC ( P < .001). CONCLUSION To our knowledge, this is largest Thailand that demonstrates increasing outcomes NPC, despite presenting LA stages. use may be contributing patients.

Background/Objectives: The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a prevalent sexually transmitted infection that known cause of morbidities such as genital warts and cancers the cervix, anus, oropharynx. Non-cervical HPV-related have been developing problem in North America, increasing incidence by up to 225% some instances over span two decades. Methods: This study investigated levels awareness knowledge HPV, oropharyngeal cancer (OPC), HPV vaccine using self-administered web-based survey designed specifically for this research. University students (n = 1005) aged 18–30 completed 42-item questionnaire included demographic information, questions, series “true/false/I don’t know” questions. Results: data gathered revealed participants had relatively high awareness. However, many respondents significant gaps their OPC, vaccine. Collectively, indicate value vaccination may place younger individuals at risk infections. Conclusions: Although level concerning was observed, suggest further efforts are necessary educate young adults. While all factors cannot be reduced, present guide future directed toward better education on related health concerns associated risks.

Ferroptosis is a novel form of cell death distinct from traditional mechanisms, characterized by the accumulation iron ions and production lipid peroxides. It not only affects survival tumor cells but also closely linked to changes in microenvironment. Lung cancer one leading malignancies worldwide terms incidence mortality, its complex biological mechanisms resistance make treatment challenging. Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis plays key role onset progression lung cancer, with intricate regulatory influencing development response therapy. As research into deepens, related molecular pathways, such as glutamate metabolism, antioxidant defense, been gradually revealed. However, clinical practice, ferroptosis-based therapeutic strategies for are still their early stages. Challenges remain, including incomplete understanding specific ferroptosis, insufficient on factors, limited insight interactions within Therefore, effective modulation enhance remains an urgent issue. This review summarizes analyzes factors interaction microenvironment, further explores potential targeting ferroptosis. By synthesizing latest research, this paper aims provide new perspectives directions treatment, goal advancing applications.
