Objectives: We provide a review of the literature on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in older adults, focusing largely U.S. military veterans two primary areas: 1) assessment and diagnosis 2) non-pharmacological treatment PTSD late life. Methods: performed search using PubMed Academic Search Premier (EBSCO) databases reviewed reference sections selected papers. also drew our own clinical perspectives reflections seven expert mental health practitioners. Results: Rates are lower compared with younger adults. The presence sub-syndromal/partial is important may impact patient functioning. Assessment requires awareness adaptation for potential differences experience expression Psychotherapies late-life appear safe, acceptable efficacious cognitively intact although there relatively few controlled studies. Treatment adaptations likely warranted adults co-morbidities (e.g., chronic illness, pain, sensory, or cognitive changes). Conclusions: an consideration empirical database, particularly regarding psychotherapy, limited.Clinical Implications: trauma history symptoms essential, lead to increased recognition treatment.

Objectives To investigate the efficacy, safety and applicability of internet-based, therapist-led partner-assisted cognitive-behavioural writing therapy (iCBT) for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms after intensive care sepsis in patients their spouses compared with a waitlist (WL) control group. Design Randomised-controlled, parallel group, open-label, superiority trial concealed allocation. Setting Internet-based intervention Germany; location-independent via web-portal. Participants Patients whom at least one had presumptive PTSD diagnosis (PTSD-Checklist (PCL-5)≥33). Initially planned sample size: 98 dyads. Interventions ICBT group: 10 assignments over 5-week period; WL waiting period. Primary secondary outcome measures outcome: pre–post change symptom severity (PCL-5). Secondary outcomes: remission PTSD, depression, anxiety somatisation, relationship satisfaction, health-related quality life, premature termination treatment. Outcomes were applied pre post treatment 3, 6 12 months follow-up. Results Twenty-five dyads representing 34 participants randomised analysed (ITT principle). There was no evidence difference PCL-5 iCBT (mean −0.96, 95% CI (−5.88 to 3.97), p=0.703). No adverse events reported. confirmed iCBT. Conclusions reduce sepsis, first time addressing both spouses. It applicable safe given population. efficacy on severity. Due small size our findings remain preliminary but can guide further research, which is needed determine if modified approaches post-intensive may be more effective.
