Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) disproportionately affect transgender women and travestis (TGW), who often lack access to healthcare due stigma discrimination. We describe the approach methodology of a study investigating prevalence syphilis, HIV, hepatitis A, B, C, Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), human papillomavirus (HPV) among TGW, as well their knowledge perceptions regarding better inform policies curb STIs this vulnerable population.

Transgender youth face disproportionately high rates of homelessness, which can increase vulnerability to HIV. In Peru, the incidence HIV among transgender women has increased 19% since 2010 and young are a priority population for prevention. We sought estimate proportion experiencing homelessness associations between vulnerabilities. recruited ages 16–24 years (N = 209) participate in biobehavioural survey STI testing (chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea). Poisson regression models with robust standard errors were fit association past 6-month condomless sex, adjusted potential confounding by age, education, sex work, non-injection drug use, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), violence. Among participants (median age 23 years), 68 (32.5%) had ever been homeless 19 (9.1%) reported 3 months. Overall, 51.5% those who compared 29.1% never (p < 0.001). prevalence was 44.6% history 39.6% 0.65); lifetime significantly associated work 0.001), violence 0.01), PTSD model adjusting behavioural risk (sex use), 1.43 times higher (95% CI 1.05-1.96); results attenuated when PTSD. The sampled underscores compounding vulnerabilities faced this population. Efforts prevent improve access housing urgently needed alongside healthcare services, including prevention treatment, address disproportionate epidemic Peruvian women.

Trans women living with HIV (TWH) have suboptimal care engagement. We pilot tested Amigas, a theory-based, trans-specific peer navigation (PN) intervention to address barriers in São Paulo, Brazil. TWH were randomized the PN (n = 75) or control 38) condition. Control participants referred trans-friendly care. A priori feasibility criteria met: 92% eligible enrolled 70% retained months; however, only 47% achieved moderate better adherence both phone/text program components. This study conducted among transgender women in São Paulo, Brazil assessed the acceptability and suitability of screening sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as Chlamydia trachomatis Neisseria gonorrhoeae, by sampling multiple anatomical sites (i.e. urethral, anorectal, oropharyngeal, neovaginal), utilizing self- or provider-collection methods. First, a convenience sample 23 cohort participants were recruited during scheduled visit between October November 2018. Data collection was through short investigator-led quantitative survey Portuguese, included presentation investigator-designed, gender-neutral instructional diagrams to guide self-sampling. Three supplemental focus group discussions (FGDs) with total 30 guided semi-structured script Portuguese September 2019. All reported being assigned male sex at birth self-identified feminine gender identity time study. respondents (100%; n = 23) indicated willingness provide samples for STI future visit. Preference self-collection urine (83%; 19), urethral swabs (82%; 18), anorectal (77%; 17). A lower preference oropharyngeal (48%; 11) observed. Most (78%; 18) that they would not prefer specimens be collected health professional, mainly due 'more privacy' (72%; 13). feel comfortable self-collected based on shown. In FGDs, although professional described technically safer option some participants, there avoid discomfort embarrassment exposing body. Overall, this sub-study suggested introducing self-sampling etiological diagnosis STIs from potential infection sites. Uptake usability will explored further cross-sectional prevalence Brazil.

Abstract Background Transgender women are disproportionately affected by both HIV and gender-based violence (GBV), defined as physical, sexual, or emotional perpetrated against an individual based on their gender identity/expression. While a growing body of evidence demonstrates that GBV leads to poor care treatment outcomes among cisgender women, less research has examined this association transgender women. We assessed the impact lifetime experiences subsequent retention in laboratory confirmed viral suppression sample living with (TWH) Brazil. Methods A pilot trial peer navigation intervention improve TWH was conducted São Paulo, Brazil between 2018 2019. were recruited randomized into control arm participated baseline 9-month follow-up survey ongoing extraction clinical visit, prescribing, data. Generalized linear model regressions Poisson distribution estimated relative risk (RR) for physical sexual reported at (retention suppression) follow-up, adjusting sociodemographic characteristics. Results total 113 study. At baseline, median age 30 years, prevalence 62% 45%, respectively. 58% ( n = 66/113) retained 35% 40/113) had suppression. In adjusted models, non-significantly associated 10% reduction (aRR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.67, 1.22) 31% 0.69; 0.43, 1.11). Lifetime 28% 0.72, 0.52, 1.00) significantly 56% 0.44; 0.24, 0.79). Conclusion Our findings first demonstrate over time Interventions seeking should assess address population. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03525340.

Transgender women are disproportionately impacted by HIV infection. We report herein the findings of a pre-post evaluation TransLife Care (TLC) project in Chicago, Illinois, on behaviors associated with transmission among transgender women. Participants who received any TLC component versus those did not were compared using mixed-effects logistic regression random intercepts across follow-up time points. Ninety-seven participants aged 18 to 59 (median age 24) enrolled; 76.3% color. There was decrease condomless sex without consistent PrEP use at 8 months, which significantly different between and receive intervention, controlling for calendar time. Evidence does indicate that reduces protection urban However, given preponderance evidence influence structural barriers sex, future research should continue test efficacy interventions.
