Purpose On the basis of conservation resources theory (CORT), this study investigates relationship between social overload and users’ withdrawal intention from communities on networking sites (SNSs), with serial mediating mechanisms social-psychological distance emotional exhaustion moderating mechanism (similar) linguistic style. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected 489 users in different SNSs an emerging market. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze sample data test hypotheses. Findings Results show that has a positive influence SNSs. Furthermore, have effect relationship. In addition, style negatively moderates link intention. Originality/value This extends CORT propose unique research model clarifies leading behavior The findings provide implications for researchers, individual users, administrators/managers communities, SNS providers understand make better decisions retain member users.
