Purpose With the crescent globalisation together with economic and food crisis, consumers are increasingly confronted products from different origins appeals to consume “national”. If many can be related a specific region or country, sold as commodities Portuguese origin indication. One factor influencing purchase behaviour of domestic is consumer ethnocentrism (CE) characteristic. The aim this paper study consumers' intention towards “produce in Portugal” fruits vegetables applying CE extended model theory planned (TPB). Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was presented random sample 700 individuals older than 18 responsible for household by computer-assisted telephone interview (CAT) system. Structural equation modelling (SEM) conducted examine direct indirect effects attitude (ATT), subjective norms (SuBNs), perceived behavioural controls (PBCNTRLs), self-congruity on fresh purchases. Findings suggest that TPB applicable determining buy Portugal. has been shown successfully influence intention. Research limitations/implications This provides industry retail informative basis about which mechanisms underlie food. Also, useful insight into how categories label affect intentions, serve communication strategies order increase vegetables. New should studied. Abstract Understanding the factors associated with adoption of ecological farming practices is a well‐established topic interest to agricultural economists. As transition more sustainable agriculture has become policy priority for European Union, broad and balanced reviews this literature are important. We develop systematic map quantitative observational studies which describes practice(s) adopted, frequency inclusion significance range independent variables, how dependent variable measured. also conduct quality assessment. find that while socio‐demographic variables farm structural frequently included, they were insignificant often than significant. Due to high-intensity agricultural production activities and the excessive use of chemical substances such as fertilizers pesticides, nonpoint source pollution has surpassed industrial urban residential become number one contributor in China. Promoting farmers' participation management is a key link achieve goal sustainable development. Based on an expanded theory planned behavior, we identified influencing factors management. According microsurvey data from 600 farmers Huai'an, China, used structural equation model analyze depth influence internal cognition their perceptions external environment explore formation mechanism behavior. The study shows that, first, government regulations promote green development market social organizations that strengthen but are not fully significant. Water-saving agriculture (WSA) is often introduced as an effective strategy to reduce water infiltration and mitigate irrigation-induced landslide risks. The effects highly rely on smallholder farmers, who would rather suffer from landslides than adapt. This study focused farmers’ adoption intention of WSA in general drip irrigation drought-tolerant crop specific, representing changes technology farming systems. An integrative theoretical model was developed based the extended theory planned behavior (TPB) with elements norm activation acceptance model. Hypotheses were tested using data a questionnaire survey 363 farmers Loess Plateau, Northwest China. results structural equation modeling showed that most crucial factor bolstering subjective norm, regardless different measures. Attitude more influential perceived control vice versa adoption, indicating attitude important change capacity played role system shift. In addition, awareness environmental consequences contributed positively attitude, ease-of-use improved control. Most notably, TPB has explanatory power classical one. By considering moral technical aspects, enhanced comprehensiveness explaining drivers under findings shed light future disaster risk management for China other countries risk.

Abstract Transitions towards more sustainable agricultural systems are often characterised by ‘lock-ins’, understood as self-reinforcing mechanisms that reproduce the status quo and impede change. While socioeconomic, technological institutional lock-ins have been widely used to understand processes of transitions in agri-food systems, role so-called cognitive is still under-investigated. In this study, we focus on how settings create farmers’ decision-making related adoption practices. We apply goal framing for environmental behaviour transition theory explaining socio-technical conditions may shape farmer’s decision-making. Empirically, example diversifying crop rotations with legumes an established strategy increase biodiversity soil health, reduce agrochemical use, emissions pollution, which remains rare European agriculture. use two cases Atlantic pedo-climatic region, Cornwall, UK, Gelderland, Netherlands. Using in-depth interview data farmers extensive supplementary secondary data, explore context-specific interact normative, gain-oriented hedonic frames (un-)desirability diversification legumes. This creates recognisable lock-ins: context drastically perceived viability alternative Our findings case suggest framework developed study help identify regionally specific, well common, barriers solutions comparable practices relevant sustainability systems.
