Abstract Childhood maltreatment and intimate partner violence (IPV) victimization are major psychiatric risk factors. Maltreatment substantially increases the likelihood of subsequent IPV victimization, but what drives this association is poorly understood. We analyzed retrospective self-reports in 12,794 participants (58% women, 42% men) from Twins Early Development Study at ages 21 26 using quantitative genetic methods. estimated etiological influences common to IPV, effect on beyond such influences. Participants who reported childhood ( ~ 7% sample) were 3 times more likely than their peers also report age 21, 4 26. The between was mostly due environmental shared by co-twins (42–43%) (30–33%), as well nonshared (25–27%). similar for women men, its etiology partly differed sex. had a moderate phenotypic models β = 0.25–0.30), decreasing small-to-moderate range causally informative accounting 0.15–0.21). Risk factors largely familial origin, genetic. Even considering factors, experiencing may be related victimization. Interventions promoting safe relationships among young adults exposed warranted should address family-level individual-level shaped genetics.

Emotion dysregulation (ED) is a transdiagnostic construct characterized by difficulties regulating intense emotions. People with bipolar disorder (BD) are more likely to show ED and use maladaptive emotion regulation strategies than adaptive ones. However, little known about whether in BD trait or it rather an epiphenomenon of mood symptoms. We conducted systematic review meta-analysis the evidence across major literature databases reporting correlations between measures (overall different strategies) depressive (hypo)manic symptoms from inception until April 12th, 2022.Fourteen studies involving 1371 individuals were included qualitative synthesis, which 11 reported quantitative information meta-analysis. significantly higher during periods severe symptoms, especially ones, while lower.ED correlates symptomatology, mainly occurs alterations. may be target for specific psychotherapeutic pharmacological treatments, according precision psychiatry. further needed, including patients episodes longitudinal design, provide robust explore causal direction associations.

Abstract Childhood maltreatment (CM) has been related to social functioning and cognition impairment in people with psychotic disorders (PD); however, evidence across different CM subtypes domains remains less clear. We conducted a systematic review meta-analysis quantify associations between CM, overall its (physical/emotional/sexual abuse, physical/emotional neglect), of adults PD. also examined moderators mediators these associations. A PRISMA-compliant search was performed on 24 November 2022 (PROSPERO CRD42020175244). Fifty-three studies ( N = 13 635 individuals PD) were included qualitative synthesis, which 51 260) 125 effects sizes pooled meta-analyses. found that negatively associated global interpersonal relations, positively aggressive behaviour, but unrelated independent living or occupational functioning. There no meta-analytic cognition. Meta-regression analyses did not identify any consistent moderation pattern. Narrative synthesis identified sex timing as potential moderators, depressive symptoms maladaptive personality traits possible outcomes. Associations small magnitude limited number assessing are available. Nevertheless, PD at risk problems after exposure, an effect observed multiple subtypes, domains, diagnoses illness stages. Maltreated may thus benefit from trauma-related psychosocial interventions targeting relationships

Facial emotion (or expression) recognition (FER) is a domain of affective cognition impaired across various psychiatric conditions, including bipolar disorder (BD). We conducted systematic review and meta-analysis searching for eligible articles published from inception to April 26, 2023, in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE, PsycINFO examine whether what extent FER would differ between people with BD those other mental disorders. Thirty-three studies comparing 1506 patients 1973 clinical controls were included the present review, twenty-six them analyzed random-effects meta-analyses exploring discrepancies discriminating or identifying emotional stimuli at general specific level. Individuals more accurate each type during task compared individuals diagnosed schizophrenia (SCZ) (SMD = 0.27; p-value 0.006), differences perception anger 0.46; 1.19e-06), fear 0.38; 8.2e-04), sadness 0.33; 0.026). In contrast, less than major depressive (MDD) -0.24; 0.014), but these sad -0.31; 0.009). No significant observed when was children adolescents attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. emerges as potential integrative instrument guiding diagnosis by enabling discrimination SCZ MDD. Enhancing standardization adopted tasks could further enhance accuracy this tool, leveraging therapeutic target.

Introduction Interpersonal problems are a transdiagnostic risk factor for the development and maintenance of various psychiatric disorders, including anxiety depression. Interventions that address these interpersonal challenges could therefore play crucial role in enhancing mental health. This study aims to evaluate efficacy feasibility group intervention, Kiesler Circle Training (KCT), improving skills. Methods analysis In prospective randomised controlled trial (RCT), 156 outpatients with primary diagnosis either depression or disorder according DSM-5, significant problems, will be investigated. All patients receive individual, state-of-the-art cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) during study. They randomly assigned one two conditions: experimental KCT sessions, addition individual CBT, while control only CBT. The intervention consists 1 introductory session 12 weekly each lasting 100 min, groups up 10 patients. includes five sequential modules: circle, nonverbal communication, verbal conflict resolution empathy training. It is hypothesised show (a) greater reduction from pre-assessment post-assessment (b) symptomatic improvement regarding diagnosis. Child maltreatment expected moderate trajectory problems. provide evidence as modular add-on approach difficulties. Ethics dissemination obtained approval ethics committees at Charité Berlin, Medical School Berlin University Greifswald. results disseminated through peer-reviewed articles scientific journals contributions national international conferences. Trial registration number DRKS00032467, NCT06170801 (see Supplementary Material).

Maltreated youth are a particularly vulnerable group that often contends with multifaceted mental health challenges, especially symptoms of posttraumatic stress and depression. Emotional dysregulation may have central role in linking victimization to psychopathology this population, but few examined the effect specific mechanisms such as expressive suppression cognitive reappraisal regard. The present study these vis-à-vis depressive highly diverse sample 133 aged 11-17 years who were removed from home following maltreatment. Expected positive relationships found respect total cluster (i.e., intrusion, avoidance, alterations cognition mood, arousal reactivity) well symptoms. Conversely, unexpected only for groups, notably males, younger youth, those had not experienced sexual findings implications tailoring clinical protocols offer directions integrating into transdiagnostic models youth.
