We studied the effect of marijuana liberalization policies on perinatal health with a multiperiod difference-in-differences estimator that exploited variation in effective dates medical laws (MML) and recreational (RML).We found proportion maternal hospitalizations use disorder increased by 23% (0.3 percentage points) first three years after RML implementation, larger effects states authorizing commercial sales marijuana. This growth was accompanied 7% (0.4 decline tobacco hospitalizations, yielding net zero over all substance hospitalizations.RMLs were not associated changes newborn health.MMLs had no significant nor fairly small could be ruled out.In absolute numbers, our findings implied modest or adverse array outcomes considered.

Abstract Background Globally, cannabis laws and regulations are rapidly changing. Countries increasingly permitting access to under various decriminalization, medicalization, legalization laws. With strong economic, public health, social justice incentives driving these domestic policy reforms, liberalization trends bound continue. However, despite a large growing body of interdisciplinary research addressing the policy‐relevant safety, socioeconomic consequences liberalization, there is lack robust primary systematic that comprehensively investigates reforms. Objectives This evidence gap map (EGM) summarizes empirical on policies. Primary objectives were develop conceptual framework linking policies relevant outcomes, descriptively summarize evidence, identify areas concentration gaps. Search Methods We searched for eligible English‐language studies published across 23 academic databases 11 gray literature sources through August 2020. Eligible interventions include create or expand decriminalized supply cannabis: comprehensive medical (MCLs), limited cannabidiol (CBDLs), recreational (RCLs), industrial hemp (IHLs), decriminalization cultivations (DCLs). outcomes intermediate responses (i.e., attitudes/behaviors markets/environments) longer‐term (health, outcomes) Data Collection Analysis Both dual screening data extraction performed with third person deconfliction. appraised using Maryland Scientific Scale reviews assessed AMSTAR 2. Importance

Amid the opioid epidemic and evolving legal social changes with marijuana, little is known about substance use among pregnant postpartum people living HIV.

Objectives

To evaluate trends in alcohol, during pregnancy first year US HIV differences based on marijuana legalization status.

Design, Setting, Participants

Data from Surveillance Monitoring for Antiretroviral Toxicities (SMARTT) study of Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study were analyzed. SMARTT-enrolled, at 22 sites January 1, 2007, to July 2019, self-reported data available pregnancy, 1 postpartum, or both assessed.

Exposures

Calendar state

Main Outcomes Measures

The prevalence any each following substances was calculated by calendar year, separately postpartum: opioid, concomitant alcohol marijuana. Log binomial models fit using general estimating equations mean annual change, accounting repeat pregnancies. also evaluated recreational medical

Results

Substance 2926 pregnancies 2310 (mean [SD] age, 28.8 [6.1] years; 822 [28.1%] Hispanic, 1859 [63.5%] non-Hispanic Black, 185 [6.3%] White, 24 [0.8%] more than race, other race ethnicity [individuals who identified as American Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander], 12 [0.4%] unknown unreported ethnicity). Between 2007 increased 7.1% 11.7%, whereas unchanged. Postpartum (44.4%), (13.6%), (10.0%) common; 10.2% 23.7% adjusted risk 7% (95% CI, 3%-10%) per 11% 7%-16%) postpartum. 10% 5%-15%) year. Differences not associated legalization, but legalization.

Conclusions Relevance

In this cohort study, remained stable, over time states legalized These patterns increasing suggest that enhanced clinical attention warranted, given potential maternal child health implications use.

Abstract Background and Objectives Despite marijuana's association with adverse pregnancy birth outcomes, its use during increased over the last two decades. During this period, medical marijuana has been legalized in 38 states District of Columbia. States have observed marketing related products. This study aims to examine between state‐level legalization United States. Methods Using 2015–2021 National Survey on Drug Use Health, we evaluated past month among currently pregnant mothers ( N = 4338) their state residence. Survey‐weighted descriptive, bivariate, multivariable logistic regression analyzes were performed. Results About 5.7% women reported using month, 59.0% lived a where was across 2015–2021. Compared those living without legalization, more (4.6% vs. 6.5%). In model, residing likely than residents (adjusted Odds Ratio: 1.56; 95% Confidence Interval: 1.11–2.18).
