Abstract This study explores how employees’ flow experience at work emerges, is sustained, and continuously grows over time. Based on the job demand-resource model, we propose intraday upward spiral of flow: Challenging demands resources activate experience, further encouraging them to seek more challenges resources. Furthermore, drawing perseverative cognition theory spill-crossover inter-day The antecedents (or consequences) can overflow from family domain result in positive rumination, thus promoting next-day experience. Our diary generated 1,208 data points 142 employees 10 working days. We found that morning, challenging positively affected participants’ flow, pursue afternoon enter this state again. Moreover, afternoon’s promoted respondents’ problem-solving pondering night, which increased their next-morning demands, resources, and, thus, flow. Through study, expand emerging literature organizational behavior provide information for practitioners build sustain peak states.

Despite abundant evidence indicating the beneficial consequences of flow, thus far, ways to activate this peak state at team level remain largely understudied. In study, by integrating challenge–hindrance framework with productive energy theory, we illustrated how different stressors may or inhibit flow via energy-based mechanisms (i.e., affective, cognitive, and behavioral energy). We also explored role mindfulness in promoting (re)shaping members' interactions caused stressors. used three-wave, multisource data from 125 teams high-technology industry test these arguments. The confirm that challenge enhance experience increasing energy, whereas hindrance undermine depleting energy. Team strengthens positive effect on alleviates depletion stressors, consequently experience. Our findings elucidate formation can inform practitioners about fuel sustain optimal state.

Abstract The rise of digital labour platforms has made side‐hustles a defining feature modern work. debate over whether benefit or burden full‐time work remains unresolved. We propose side‐hustle thriving as key factor. Drawing on the conservation resources theory, we theorize dual pathways: Side‐hustle enhances performance through psychological detachment from and affective well‐being within employees' roles (resource gain), yet simultaneously impairs it via attention residue resource depletion depletion). Two studies, one with 10‐day experience sampling (N = 97, 644 observations) another multisource, multiwave design 247), support this framework. Crucially, identify boundary segmentation preference between moderator: Employees who strongly separate domains amplify gain pathway while mitigating depletion. This research offers nuanced framework for managing multiple jobholding in gig economy era.

Abstract Prior research has shown that customer incivility impacts targeted employees' performance. Yet, whether such experiences also influence bystander employees been overlooked. In this work, we take a third‐party perspective and suggest observed customer‐to‐colleague may have positive impact on service Drawing social learning theory, develop model where study the consequence of performance through self‐reflection. A two‐week experience sampling with data collected from 99 nurses revealed that, daily was positively related to self‐reflection, which in turn associated their Moreover, identified performance‐based self‐esteem (i.e., importance self‐esteem) as key boundary condition explains for whom witnessing is more likely engender higher The theoretical practical implications these findings are discussed.

Purpose This study aims to investigate how work overload, resulting from full-time telecommuting, aggravates telecommuting accounting professionals’ burnout via the mediation of exhaustion. Further, also tests conditional moderation effect psychological capital on association between exhaustion and burnout, proposing that it becomes least severe for employees who perceive a high level capital. Design/methodology/approach The research was conducted using sample 322 Big Four firms, measurement model established confirmatory factor analysis. Hypotheses were tested structural equation modeling model-14 in PROCESS Macro SPSS. Findings results confirmed overload directly indirectly (via exhaustion) employees’ burnout. However, negatively conditions mediating such aggravating exhaustion, gets (insignificant) those Originality/value contributes literature overload-induced “work burnout” offers suggestions implications.
