In recent years, there has been growing recognition of the threats to health posed by loneliness. One main strategies that recommended address this is social prescribing (SP). A common guideline for self-disclosure is that therapists should only share recovered personal experiences with clients (i.e., no longer distressing). However, theoretical rationale and empirical support this claim limited. Drawing on identity leadership theorizing, we investigated whether recovery disclosures are beneficial to the extent they signal a therapist's aspirational prototypicality embodiment of an clients). Across two experimental studies (N = 545), recruited clients, general population adults. Abstract The social identity approach to leadership contends that the most effective leaders represent, advance, create, and embed a shared (i.e., sense of ‘we’ ‘us’) within groups they lead.
