ABSTRACT The artisanal fishing in the Bay of Bengal has been characterized by complex heterogeneity. A lack comprehensive data on threatened elasmobranchs (sharks and rays), including guitarfish, hinders evidence‐based management. This study evaluated status focusing effects socioeconomic circumstances fishers impacting catch perceived trends. impacts were assessed spatially temporally coastal Bangladesh. Interviews conducted with 150 primary fish landing locations communities. analysis showed a notable decrease various guitarfish species. Growing human use of the marine environment increases proximity humans to wildlife and thus likely human-wildlife interactions.
