Eating disorders (EDs) are a heterogeneous class of increasing mental that characterized by disturbances in eating behaviors, body weight regulation, and associated psychological dysfunctions. These create physiological imbalances alter the diversity composition gut microbiota. While evidence suggests EDs can arise from epigenetic aberrations, alterations microbial communities may also contribute to development and/or persistence through mechanisms. Understanding interplay among communities, processes, risk provides opportunities for designing preventive therapeutic interventions microbiome modulation. This review highlights how microbiome-based therapeutics specific dietary improving various subtypes modulating mitigating aberrations. First, we briefly literature on links between aberrations pathophysiology EDs. Second, examine potential role pathogenesis Next, explore associations other psychiatric disorders, roles their pathogenesis. Finally, present supporting improve modifications.

The last two decades have seen a major increase in our understanding of the role microbiome health and disease. We now realise that these fellow travellers are really important regulators various systems body across lifespan. In this Special Issue, we bring together collection articles from leading authors who summarise current state art host-microbe interactions. While celebrate breakthroughs science, also acknowledge challenges-variability microbiota composition, complexities interactions need for standardised methodologies. As research progresses, harnessing power may pave way novel diagnostic therapeutic strategies, reaffirming notion never alone-our microbial accompany us through life, better or worse.

Childhood and adolescent obesity its associated morbidities are increasing in part due to the ingestion of diets high fat (HFD). Changes gastrointestinal microbiome have been with these morbidities, including insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory states. The use dietary probiotics may mitigate microbiome-associated improve health during maturation. Using our established model rats consuming an HFD from weaning, we examined gut a single-strain probiotic drinking water [Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v (Lp299v, LP299V®)] adult rats. Our main finding was differential effect on that maturation (adolescence vs. adulthood). Specifically, treatment led alterations enrichment microbiome, which were obesity, while under same conditions exhibited minimal changes, demonstrating differences plasticity Of particular relevance this regard is fact Oscillospiraceae Lachnospiraceae, beneficial short-chain fatty acid production, enriched treated Lp299v. data suggest childhood adolescence adulthood by potentially affecting developing microbiome.

The study of interactions between gut microbiota and the well-being host has become increasingly popular in last decades. Growing interest microbiota–host brought attention to faecal transplantation (FMT) as a clinically effective, though still debated, therapeutic approach. This review discusses how limitations characterisation bacteriomes—particularly interindividual variation methodological inconsistencies—may influence outcomes FMT. concept enterotypes is considered framework that could support more refined stratification donors recipients, offering possible route toward greater precision microbiota-based interventions. Further on, touches on subject among host, bacteriome, phageome—the community bacteriophages—with specific focus presence intriguing distribution patterns crAssviruses. final chapters are dedicated discussing current state FMT procedure its variations, well possibility performing virome transplants (FVTs) potentially safer equally efficient alternative.
